Shifting gears for a few days so please stay with me - I'm going to have a pattern over the next couple of days....
Why do you come to the Dog section? What is it that you get out of being here? Please, for those of you who are long time users, what is it that brings you back? For those of you who are new, what brings you here?
I'm not asking about what's right or wrong... just why do you come here?
Thanks a bunch....

I accidently stumbled upon Yahoo answers and the dog section. I was doing a google search of some dog breed or another and one of the links led me here. I read some of the questions and thought this site was pretty interesting. I tried to answer a question and thats when i realized i needed an account. So I made a quick account and started answering and asking questions. Some of the questions and answers I read made me wonder are they really serious. I stuck around for a while and soon discovered that these were real questions. I dont know much about dogs other then the basics, but I still think I can offer some advice. And I can certaintly learn something new almost everyday. I asked a question about dog shows and I got some really helpful answers. I have also learnt about higher quality dog food ,and info on a whole array of dog breeds. It took me a while to realize that there wasnt just a pets section and then I began looking around on Yahoo Answers. I keep coming back to the dog section because this is the section that most interests me. Sometimes I get frustrated at some of the questions and answers about dogs,so i take a break and come back a week or so later. I keep coming back because I know there are knowledgeable people here, who are willing to help if your wiling to learn. I also like to help others and give my input.

I have dogs, I love dogs, and so I like to help people care for their dogs, and learn more about caring for my dogs.
Of course, I hope that umm, at least 95% of the questions I see asked on here are fake because otherwise all I can say is that there are a lot of people out there who should not own dogs.
I don't understand the people that ask medical questions, especially those that sound like emergency questions, when they should either be on the phone to a vet, or better yet, in the car on the way to an emergency vet. So again, I hope most of those questions are fake and are being asked by people that are just trying to tick other people off.
As someone else answered, it's kinda like a train wreck too. You just have to come on in and see what the heck people are asking.

Good question- you know, I, like many here, kind of stumbled in when I was dealing with a medical mystery for one of my dogs. I didn't really get the answers I needed, but I did find a lot of people eager to help. I was somewhat shocked at the number of questions daily from people who just don't have a clue yet about dog care....since I don't have the room, money, or time to help all the dogs out there that need it, I figure the next best thing is to try to spread a little experience around to those that need it....I am enough of a realist to know you can't help everyone, and you can't save every dog, but if you can help one person better deal with their dog, maybe that's one less dog that gets dumped at animal services, or out of a car, or into a dumpster....I also learn things here....but somedays it takes an awful lot of sifting to get to the "new" questions!

I came here by accident as I did a search on yahoo for a question and the section came up. Then I registered as I had a question and I received a few good answers. I stayed because I like to read some of the different opinions on different subjects as well as pick up some good educational information on some other things that I'm not sure of or would like to know more about.

I stumbled on the whole thing looking for info about a Yahoo group I belong to (related to dogs and training). Then I thought I might find some good info here. I was quickly disappointed in the quality of most of the questions as well as the answers. But I answered a few basic questions and one of my simple 2 line answers got chosen as best answer by asker. I was stunned. I never really believed anyone would choose one of my answers. After that, i was hooked. And if I looked hard enough, I did actually find helpful answers and interesting questions. I stay because I feel I can answer basic dog/puppy training questions as well as the next guy and, more importantly, I have learned a lot from several of the regulars. Thanks for your regular contributions as well!

Hi Cindy! (Love your avatar!)
I love to come here because I want to inform people and have a little fun here and there and get a giggle out of some of you guys. Its mostly where I belong because I love dogs and everything about them. I want dogs to have the best life as possible because they can't talk to say what it needs and wants but to be there for it and be a good owner. To stop people from animal abuse and Puppy mills. Asking people to please spay and neuter. Helping people with what they need on their dogs and Educate them.
ETA: Yes and thinking I can recognize you know better! Isn't it good now the whole avatar thing is back to normal? I just really hope it stays that way! Now I can switch back to character and picture with no worry being stuck on an avatar for the rest of the month!
Have a great evening Cindy!

WoW! I just stumbled onto this section for the first time and thought I would see what people had to say about your question. I didn't see the other ones. I think I'll check them out.
The other sites I like are getting boring this evening.
Like someone said, lots of repeating questions.
I had a dog, well, several different kinds, but the one I loved was our 33 pound sheltie. He was so fun. We had him for about 10 years. He died 2 years ago and we just haven't gotten another one yet. We live in the country so we really should have one just because we can. So many people live in cities and have dogs pent up in the little apartments all day.
I just don't know what kind to get, it can't be too small because of the red tail hawks and owls around here that like to eat small animals. But not too big either because I like to have them on my lap and pet them. And it has to have soft fur, but not too long.
I would probably look first at a shelter or rescue because I think those dogs are the most loving and the most surprising as to what they know.
If you can think of any good dog for me just email me.
Anyway that's my say on dogs. Thanks.

I come here because I like to offer any help that I can. I like to educate for whatever it's worth, on breeding and how it's not something to be just done for profit or because they can. I also offer training tips on things I have experienced and found to work with my dog. But I don't answer questions I know I'm not qualified to answer, unlike some.
I also have learned a few things from being here, from the folks who I have come to know as experienced individuals. I appreciate learning something new when I can.
I just want to help someone if I can and if they are willing to listen. They often are not when it comes to those breeding questions, but I have indeed convinced a few that it's not probably a good idea. I can be happy with reaching a few for now.

I ran accross YA by accident and went to a section that I thought I could actually answer a question with knowledge and experience. I have been involved with dogs all my life...as a kid, my parents bred and showed Dandie Dinmont Terriers and I have owned, showed and trained dogs all my adult life. I also learn a lot here too. There are a lot of knowledgeable and experienced people here that I totally respect and trust. I also like the feeling of being around people who like to talk dogs just like me. :)

I come here cuz the religion section drove me batty!!!
Besides that, I lurked here for a while. Never answering q's and just reading. I love dogs, love animals in general but I adore dogs!!! I am luckily owned by 6 currently. What prompted me to start actually answering and participating was rescuing my chihuahua who was pregnant and owned by some BYB's, apparenly they didnt find any buyers for the mutts so they didnt want her anymore. Well, that whole situation irked me so I started responding to some of the BYBish q's. And now, I'm addicted. I love you guys!
Plus, I like combating the thumbs down trolls by giving lots of thumbs up!
