How does your belief work? Isn't saying that there is no God(s) make it alittle too easy? Thats like saying every civilization that ever was was basically wrong with their views. Isn' t that a little too neat?

And also, if there is no God, then isn't that lonely? Like you have no one to go to but people. That would seem depressing to go through life with no calling or purpose or meaning.

Before people start attacking and yelling at me, I am not attacking you. Just asking a question. Because I know someone is gonna get pissed or something.

Christians dont believe that everyone is(was) totally wrong. Just some parts are off. But every religion(aside from atheism) is partly true.

that does seem too neat to me. but explain your reasoning.

church is Brainwashing? what is the media doing to you?

2007-11-05 07:18:49 · update #3

dang. once again: im not attacking anyone here.

yes. im sure you all have friends and family that love you. but they are people. and no one is perfect. people will let you down. thats just a known fact. and that does not mean that i hate people or anything like that.

and once again. atheists believe there is not god.am i correct in that? so then you have to believe that anyone who does believe in a god is totally wrong.

christians dont believe that. if someone is muslim or hindu there are some parallels in the religions that we dont view them absolute farce. there is some truth to them. not whole truth but some truth.

as to your purposes.... you all basically say that you are here to better the human race and those around you. its kind of like what laird said... im not necessarily asking about your purpose in your life. im asking about your purpose FOR life. if you dont believe in god, then your purpose, as some of you so eloquently put it, is to just live........wow....eloquent

cucuy- its not that i think highly of myself. i have a purpose that you would not be able to understand

poseiden- make his presence known in an undeniable fashion. hows about life? also, if you dont believe in god, hes not going to show himself to you. and what about the stories of evolution and the big bang theory. that doesnt seem like some "ridiculous stories" to you. just because you cannot grasp the concept of god.

sapient- im sorry that you cannot see that life has no purpose without god.

pangloss- the fact that you label them "christians" tells alot. unfortunately there are christians who dont act the way they say.

"the single greatest cause of atheism in the world is christians. who acknowledge christ with their lips, and go out the door, and deny him by their lifestyles"

upside-god does not only communicate through books. evidence and proof is everywhere. there is not proof for evolution or anything of that theory, but god gave us free will so we can believe him freely.

Well, just because many people have believed in some sort of deity, and still do, doesn't make it any more real. A few millenia ago, almost everyone agreed that the Earth was flat, and that the Sun was much smaller than the Earth.

There have been thousands of gods made up in history, and none have every shown any signs of being true. The same goes for Christianity. There is absolutely no evidence to support your religion, just blind faith. My mind doesn't work on the premesis that, "I'll believe now, because there's a chance I'll get a reward when I die."

I didn't just wake up one morning and decide that god doesn't exist. It was a long process that involved a lot of thinking and descision making.

Strange question from a Christian but, I figure that you have to have something to look forward to right? If you don't believe in anything lonely would be an understatement. I am also a christian and I hope that there is more than this life however how do you believe in something that there is no physical evidence of? I believe that is called faith and if you don't have faith what do you have? I have kids and I want to know that we will all be together for eternity and if that means that someday we will all meet Jesus I am game besides it does not hurt anything to believe and I guess there are worse things to believe in other than god and if for some reason when you die it is the end then oh well its over you wont be able to worry about it anymore. But, hey keep the faith alive we need to be optimistic right????

An empirical view of Atheist thought reveals that there is not sufficient evidence to support a god. So logic would deter one from believing in what is not there. Isn't it a bit easier to look to the supernatural to explain what one cannot understand instead of looking for how/why things happen the way they do?

A feeling of being alone is a primate tool as well. Religion is taught, if there was a god, wouldn't he reveal himself to everyone individually instead of through some abstract union we call the church?

Honestly, how many times has a god really changed your life? What is your proof that this occurance even happened? Atheists can record their encounters with people to do the same thing. Its a bit bigoted to say that their lives must be empty because they dont have an invisible man to worship and hope will make everything all better. If what they have works for them, then back off and let them be.

Very shallow questions. Why can't someone who doesn't believe in a god have a place in life that they are happy and comfortable with? What's a matter with going to people. Best part of being human. And hey, other than the Jewish/Christian civilization Christians have gone around saying every other civilization on the face of the earth was wrong. Atheism isn't but one belief removed from Christianity.

Isn't saying there is a god a little too easy. I never say that civilizations are wrong with their views. I just chose not to believe in it.

And for being lonely... I'm constantly surrounded with people who love me. Why do I need a god for feel love.

As for having what you claim no calling, purpose, or meaning in my life, I do. It's helping people and making myself a better person the way I see fit.

No, it isn't easy to let go of belief of a big daddy watching over you all the time, or that there is an afterlife.
It is also easy to see why people believed in gods or powers, just like they believed in other superstitions. Because it is easier than look it straight in the eye and look beyond it.

And no, it isn't lonely. People are great, what is wrong with going to them? Do you dislike them that much that you can't see the pleasure of being with people? I have purpose in life, to live it well, and leave the earth a better place when I leave it, for my children and theirs.

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
Stephen Roberts

The meaning of my life- I agree with H.H. The Dalia Lama
"We are visitors on this planet. We are here for ninety or one hundred years at the very most. During that period, we must try to do something good, something useful, with our lives. If you contribute to other people's happiness, you will find the true goal, the true meaning of life."

I find my fellow humans to be beautiful and quite enough to sustain me an give my life purpose. I am sorry you do not feel the same.

"Christians don't believe that everyone is(was) totally wrong. Just some parts are off. But every religion(aside from atheism) is partly true." From all the anti- Catholic, anti- Islam, anti- Buddhist, etc. questions on here I see asked by "Christians", I respectfully disagree.

F.Y.I.-I am a Christian.... You don't say..

I don't believe in anything- but to answer your question:

1. Eliminating the "god did it" cop-out answer does not simplify ANYTHING.
2. Just because a lot of people believe in something doesn't make them right. Any answer is an answer... whether its a WRONG answer or not is irrelevant.
3. No. I don't need imaginary friends to watch me 24/7... especially when I'm _____________(fill in the blank with something gross).
4. I'd rather take bad advice from a friend than total silence from a non-existent god.
5. My life has plenty of meaning. I'm a musician, jester, artist, computer tech, best friend, brother, son, grandson... I couldn't POSSIBLY imagine better purpose than that.

Good question. Personally, I do not believe in a God. I prefer to believe in myself, and to draw on my own personal power during times of distress, rather than asking God for help. I believe that, when I pass, I will decay like any other organic matter....and that's all. I feel that religion was created by man to make us feel more comfortable with the concept of death, and to help people to adhere to a moral code. I, however, am quite comfortable with my impending death and I am a very moral individual....no need for god here.

And, just because I don't believe in God does not mean that my life has no purpose. I love my family and friends, work hard, help out when I can. I volunteer at a Pit Bull rescue, working with abused abandoned dogs and helping them find new homes. My life has plenty of purpose. Lack of religion does not make me unfulfilled.

Where aside from the bible does it say that believing in something has to be hard . Yes they were or are wrong . When a tree dies in the forest how neat is that . You delude yourselves into believing that a higher power is going to save your soul when you die . You really think way too highly of yourselves . Everything that lives will die that a fact . Show me a concrete fact of god's existence. You know as well as I do you can't . By the way I've got plenty of meaning and purpose to last the rest of my life thanks
