AKO has a section online as well as the Army Times has a section to list your assignment and try to swap with others in same pay grade etc.

He can also call his branch manager and ask to change assignments. (Not likely, but possible) if there is a shortage where you want to go, they may help you as well.

It seems to me that he is in the Army... You don't just get to swap orders, do you???

If that is the case, he should go to his current commanding officer with someone who is going to Fort Hauchuca in the same rate, someone who wants to go to Fort Polk, and ask to have the orders traded.

There must be some reason they are sending him to Fort Polk, and most of the time there are no "trades" nor any "do-overs"....

I apologize if this sounds harsh, I'm a former Marine, and I feel that one should just get over themselves and do what they're told. It is no reflection on the US Army, as I really don't know how they do things.

It just seems kind of a bizarre request. Where is Fort Hauchuca anyway?

The only way he can swap is if someone in the same job, of the same rank with the same period of time on their orders wanted to take your assignment to Polk. Otherwise, he will have to go as assigned. Once he has been there a certain amount of time (generally 2 - 3years as it would be an accompanied move) he could request new orders or look for postions open in his field and rank at other bases. In any case, any of these options would have to be approved by all commands involved.

You don't. He has orders in hand, that is where he is going. He had some say in things prior to getting his orders but now he IS going to FT Polk.

you can try army times but don't hold your breath. think about it, if you don't want to go to ft. polk who else wants to? it's not trading lunches or something like that. it's the army, you get what you get and you deal with it. have fun in louisana!
