I have a resistor that is reading 500 ohms (instead of 1K ohm) after an over-current, the color code is burn so I cannot identify if the original value was 1k or not.
Is there any possibility that a resistor reduce its value?

Thanks

If it is not wire wound but is instead composition or deposited then you can have that problem after it is burnt.

looking at the info. given,i'd say yes. apparently the overheat burned the orig.value off. this indicates you are correct.
