My Great-grandfather was a boy soldier in the Cameroonian regiment.I believe he may have served during the Boer War.How would a young Yorkshire lad in Dewsbury become associated with a Scottish regiment? I am not aware of any Scottish family connections. Did they recruit in Yorkshire?

It was very common to find all types in so called Scottish, Welsh, Irish, and English Regiments, depending upon where the regiment actually did its recruiting, while regiments liked to have as many possible members from the area where the regiment was originally raised time and conditions, especially during war sometimes meant that recruits or newly trained recruits were drafted to a regiment in need either through combat casualties or even sickness depending where the regiment was serving at the time.

Some regiments might have had a large amount of casualties that the regiment was disbanded and the survivors were posted to other regiments hope this helps.
