i think it depends. if you arent planning on neutering your new dog, get a female as maybe the male may get a bit dominant over your current dog.
if you are get either. just pick a dog that suites you, not based on their sex.
personally id neuter your new dog anyway, just to be safe

It doesn't matter if you spay/neuter the new dog as well; a neutered male will still try to mate with an intact female if she comes into heat, and that can be very stressful for the female. An intact male also might pick on a neutered male out of dominance. If the dog is fixed, either gender will be fine.

I have always had 1 dog and 1 female both neutered and they get along fine. Other folk I know have either 2 females or 2 dogs and they seem to want to fight and be the boss all the time even if they are neutered.

The gender of the new dog doesn't really matter, the important part is the personality of the old dog. If the new dog is a puppy, they will probably get along better than two adult dogs, but not necessarily.
The best thing to do would be to introduce them slowly and keep an eye on them to see how they react. If your dog has been around other dogs before and seems to get along with them, then he will probably get along with a new dog you bring home. Just make sure he gets enough attention, or he might get jealous no matter what the other dog is.

It does not matter as long as your animals are spayed and neutered! I have 3 male dogs and 1 female, all are spayed and neutered! Except 1 male, and he is going through heart worm treatment, because his previous owners didn't give him preventative medicine! They all get along just fine! Take your dog with you, and let him choose!

Spayed female. This would avoid a possible domintant issue. Some personality of the individual dog would not create a dominant issue no matter the sex - - but still have both neutered or spayed.

Get a female.. Odds are better that male / female will get along than 2 dogs of the same sex.

I don't think it relay matters if they are neutered. I happen to think male doge are easier to train. I have two neutered males and have adopted another. We will pick him in two more weeks. He will be neutered as soon as he reaches the proper age. Just take your time when introducing them. Be sure you treat them the same. We've had no problems with our two. I have to say I am concerned about introducing a third one. I think they will be just fine. Good luck.

neutering a dog usually keeps him from fighting for dominance or marking his territory w/ another male, but sometimes it doesnt & he will continue to do these things so just to be on the safe side you should probably get a female!
