My 4 year old refuses to participate in gym because "there are other kids". Any advice about what to say? How to handle it?

See if she can explain why she doesn't want to participate. Are the other kids teasing her? Is she overweight?

Encourage her to try with you there, and see how the other kids respond.

But beyond that, a 4 year old should never consider "refusing" even to be a choice. Perhaps some sort of discipline would be in order.

I would take the child out of gymnastics and wait a couple of years to try again. Your child is obviously not ready for it. It isn't really necessary for a 4 year old to be taking gymnastics anyway.

It sounds like a confidence problem. I would ask the person who teaches the gymnastics about a couple of one on one classes to boost her confidence. If this doesn't work then I would try something else. Maybe dance. Make sure your telling her shes doing good. Don't force her to do it if she honestly doesn't like it.
