People don't freak out for "no reason." Even if you don't recognize the reason, it's still there.
It could have been asthma, or some sort of panic attack. In the future, don't hesitate to call 911, it could save her life.

Okay based on what you said it can be a couple of things.
1) Panic Attack- The person would just start to freak out, in some severe cases the person would need seditive medication to end the episode. If it continues for long then the person would pass out from breathing so fast. Why is it scary to experiance, or see it usually resolves on its own.
2) Asthma Attack- Asthma is when the air passageways in your lungs constrict, and close up. It is usually triggered by some external stimulas. (exercise, cold air, getting emotional) It can be fatal if left untreated.
3) Mitral Valve Prolapse- It can cause episodes which seem very much like panic attacks. It is caused by a valve in your heart not working. Preventing proper functioning of the heart
So with this in mind I think the best idea is for your sister to go to the doctor. Some important information for your sister to make sure to specifically tell the doctor are:
-If she takes Birth Control. (It puts someone at a higher risk of blood clots)
ALL the medications she takes. (prescribed, herbal, over the counter, legal and illegal, and if she take her prescribed medications as she supossed to.)
-Her medical history. The doctor will go more into this.
Well hope this helps, Hope you sister ends up being okay. ;-)

I'm assuming it was one of the following... Perhaps a mini heart attack or pre heart attack, asthma attack, anxiety attack or too much stress from studying. I suggest you talk to your sister and ask her some questions, such as has this ever happened before, what exactly happens to you when it starts and what do you think it is? Communication is key. You need to know whats going on. Also, if she doesn't wan't to tell you whats going on, be sure to tell you parents. And, if it ever happens again, call 911 or take her to the emergency room. It could be something serious, or maybe it was just a one time thing.
Best of luck.

That sounds a bit like an asthma attack; has she been diagnosed with it? It could also be a panic attack. If you have ANY doubts, call 911 and get her to the hospital NOW. They would much prefer you to come in when you don't need to than to fail to come in and have something serious happening!

I have asthma and that's what happens to me when I go into an attack. They can come on with stress. I suggest taking her to the doctor to get her checked for it. If not, next time this happens tell her to stay calm because crying and struggling will only make it worse.

That doesn't sound like a 'no-reason' thing. It sounds like something had happened that she couldn't breathe- and that's pretty scary.
Your sister should have a check-up: The next time an attack like this happens, she might not snap out of it.
Good luck.

I woud guess, because she was studying and stressed, that it was an anxiety attack. Some people get them very often and there is medication/breathing exercises to control it. Tell her to go see a doctor.
