to get some credit for being a great driver AND for people to spell his name right? Is anyone that hates Jimmie Johnson ready to admit he can drive a race car as good as anyone presently in cup competition? That race at Texas showed how much of a racer he is and neither Tony nor Jeff could have driven that car any harder without wrecking it. If you are one of those that say they cheat, show me HOW they have in the 9 races they won this year or SHUT UP!

Yes, he hasn't won at a road course yet but he is getting better all the time. When he had to start in the back at Sonoma he did a whale of a job to drive that thing to the front. Also, this win ties him with Tony Stewart but Jimmie has been racing for 3 seasons fewer.

Tina, I said they couldn't drive it any harder than him NOT they couldn't drive it as hard as him.

I also agree that the chase system is flawed but I still like it better than a real boring end to the season. They should allow more points to the regular season winner for sure and have a larger differential between positions when they seed them for the chase. I also like an even bigger premium on wins, that should be all the drivers are fighting for regardless of where they are in the standings.

I also never stated that they haven't EVER been caught stretching the interpretation of the rule book. The one time they were CAUGHT this year wasn't really cheating. They were testing the limits that NASCAR would allow them to do with the "gray" areas between the templates. They did it openly, knowing it would not go unnoticed. It wasn't like they put in rocket fuel or something sneaky like that.

OK, I don't like Jimmie (but I can spell it right)... not b/c of his driving, but because of his whining... not so much this year, but in years past. (see Talladega 2005). I will admit that he is one of the best drivers in the field every week, though.

Hey Trego, this is Matt C under a different name for football season. Anyone that says Jimmie can't drive is a fool. (and how do you misspell his name? Jimmy? Or Jonson?) Anyway, yes, Jimmie is, and will go down as, one of the best to ever flip the ignition switch. However, having said that, I am not at all pleased with the way this season has turned out. As you know, I'm a Gordon fan heart and soul. And not taking anything away from Jimmie, but this was not his Championship. Notice I said "was" because I don't believe Gordon will ever claim the lead again. This was Gordon's year all year and he deserved the Title, but most likely will not get it. Call me just another Gordon "whiner" but I would feel the same way had Johnson, Jr., Stewart, or anyone else dominated with consistency the first 3/4 of the season like Gordon did. So there's what I think. Oh, and you should know more than anyone, those who always win, are always "losers" to everyone else. Apparently Jimmie isn't going to stop winning, so take some advice from a seasoned taker of the BS...you better get used to it.

Jeff Gordon has won 81 times, and people still spell his name wrong. Hendrick Motor Sports has all kinds of wins, and people continue to spell that wrong as well. No amount of wins will fix the fact that some people just can't spell.

As far as Jimmie being able to drive a car, his recent performance is a great indicator. Anybody who doubted it before is having a harder time doubting it now.

Has he reached the skill level of Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart? I don't believe that he's quite there yet. He has a great crew chief who has made some incredible calls throughout his career, which is the reason for many of his wins. He also hasn't proven himself on all the different types of NASCAR tracks. Give him a few more years though, and I'll be changing my answer to include him with the above two drivers.

Nine wins in whats termed the modern era is quite spectatular and I must admit to having thoughts that maybe he has surpassed Jeff in present abilities. Now how much credit for that you have to give to Chad for being the absolute best in the bizz. is something we can debate forever.I remember a crew chief by the name of Everham and the Warriors that helped Wonderboy as much as Jimmie's team does him.Welcome to a very exclusive club Treego where fans will hate on your driver because he's that good.Jimmie has become the team to hate and while Jeff still is king in that dept.,Jimmie is closing that gap too.But when the torch is officially passed and that can happen at Homestead this year, the face of Nascar is in wonderful hands with a true Champion, Jimmie Johnson.Wow 9 wins with two to go,congrats.

I agree that Jimmie is a great driver. However, I have a real problem with either of the 2 Hendrick's cars winning the championship (Johnson or Gordon) knowing that their crew chiefs have been fined/suspended so much...I can't help but feel there is something fishy going on....
PS- i'm totally not a hater of either of the drivers...I happen to like both of them even though I am a huge Stewart fan.

AND - I agree with you and the spelling thing. Its not that hard to get it right. Just like when they would always call Steve Park, "Steve Parks"....why can't they just get it right?

You know, there are quite a few of us on here that are big fans of his. There are quite a few people on here that are not fans of his, BUT give credit where credit is due. Real, honest, intelligent opinions that whether we agree with them or not, that's okay, because they are said with intelligence. Then are the ones that just hate. You see the same names over and over, just like I do. Just try to skip over those names, and stick with the ones who support him, or are intelligent about thier lack of support for him. As for the name....well, nobody will ever get it right, no matter how many times he wins, which I suspect will be a whole lot more in his career!!

Go JIMMIE go!!

I CAN spell Jimmie, and I admit he's a great driver with great equipment and a great crew chief and great pit strategy and a great pit crew. I am not admitting I like seeing him win over and over and over (3 in a row). I still would like to see someone else in Victory Lane. I don't think they cheat! They just have more advantages that $$$$$ money can buy. And it pays off. Still, I would like to see some variety in the winner's circle.

Go Jr.>>>>

I dont like Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon but I will say that they can drive the wheels off their cars. They will go down in history with the greats in Nascar. How can they not? I just dont like either one of them.

all I can say is A M E N, I can't believe there is finally someone out there who has read my book, you have hit every nail on the head, all the haters have some what changed there tune alittle bit, and it only took what 2 sweeps in a row? or the 3 wins in a row? or maybe his 9th win? I don't know, but what ever it took THANK YOU for opening all the haters eyes, I was starting to think it would have to be the back to back championship to do that, Us Hendricks fans know what we know, and that's good enough for me!! Go Johnson GO!!!!!! 48 rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It never happens. Gordon has 81 victories in Nextel/Winston Cup and he still doesn't get alot of credit for being a great driver by some.

Maybe he needs to win a few more with jaw-droppingly brilliant driving (like we saw from Jeff Gordon at Talladega last month) and not so many with Knaus's decisions (like we just saw in Texas). It wasn't JJ's driving skills that let him pass Kenseth last Sunday, it was the fact that he had four good tires versus Kenseth's two. And who put him there with four good tires? Why, Knaus and crew.

I don't consider myself a fan of Jeff Gordon's, but he has often amazed me with his driving moves. Whether or not I like his personality, he clearly has skills sufficient to be named one of the all-time greats. Johnson, on the other hand, I regard as a good driver teamed with a great crew and a brilliant crew chief. Nothing has happened this year to change this opinion.
