I believe we have a winner..thank you Carolyn D. You reply touched me. I love the fact that you are a gentle, loving, mother. I would never stop breastfeeding my infant, toddler, child b/c others told me they were "too old" or don't need it. It's completely natural and i feel no need to explain or justify to abusive people/parents out there. I am so proud to be able to meet my child's emotional and physical needs..thanks again!

Thanks UnivisionSucks, and Kate e..i appreciate your help. It's so nice to see that others here are offering to help in a compassionate way. I think Kate e 's advice was what i was going to do along w/ Carolyn D. it makes since..and if and when i'm all healed (6 months? from then) if he wants to nurse (doubt he will) then i will LET him! :)

I nursed my son for 3 years daughter for 4 years. I would tell him that your boobies are broken and the doctor will fix them.I would talk to him about this counting down the days."In ten days boobies go to the hospital" Explain that nursing will have to stop. He is old enough to tell you what comfort can replace your nursing. I would also make it clear that this is not what you want and you will also miss this special time.
Good luck and congrats with nursing this long.

I would say it would probably help if mommy did not do the bed thing. Have someone else rock and put to bed. He cannot get the breast from them. You could have dad offer him a sippy cup or some other comfort item. I would be sure that you stay away for a few nights during this time.

It will take several months to heal, and up to a year to be fully healed after breast reduction surgery.

http://www.bfar.org is a site about breastfeeding after reduction.

This will sound cruel, but is a trick my Wife learned from her Mother....

Everytime the little kid would want to hang from the breast
she would rub something sour or something she knew the kid would not want...............

It worked very well now my son doesn't even near the breast or even thinks of sucking on it.

Cold turkey and lots of reassurance. I had a 3year old who was still nursing to help him get to sleep. He put a dent in the wall with his head, and it took 45 mins of screaming, but I lay beside him and held him and reassured him, telling him that he was ok without it. That was my birthday present to myself. He is 15 now and hasn't asked for it lately --haha

?????? When they can open the refrigerator by themselves, it's way past time to wean them. You're both going to have to suffer and go cold turkey. You may just want to snuggle the child, refuse giving him/her the breast, and tough it out for a few days. You DO have to substitute something pleasurable or soothing for the child, though, so as not to confuse or reject them.

Give him a bottle in place of your breast. If he throws a fit then just let him throw a fit. He'll get over it.
