peace can only be kept by force, peace and freedom cannot be coexistent for very long

To the best of my knowledge, the world has never known peace. We have killed each other since the dawn of man. Throughout history we have developed ever more efficient means for the destruction of our fellow man. Much of our great technology comes from or is based on war.

However, in theory, I agree. Peace cannot be maintained by force or even by the threat of force. Peace is something that happens through the mutual agreement of all parties involved. This is of course the reason it doesn't happen. I takes only one person to break the peace. One voice of dissent and peace is no more.

One simple and well known example is the story of Satan. When God created Heaven there was peace. One angel destroyed the beauty of that creation (or perhaps he completed it depending on how you look at it) and brought an end to all thoughts of peace on Earth or in Heaven. The world has warred ever since that day, and it will continue to do so.

In order for peace to be maintained it must first be established. For that to happen we would first have to do away with Satan which is impossible as long as one single human holds darkness in their heart. I like the idea of peace, but it will never happen.

Can chaos be kept by peace? Sometimes to maintain something of value, it requires controls or parameters.

This may be a weird comparison, so sorry in advance. I would love to have the yard outside my house just grow flowers and trees and grass that somehow immaculately cares for itself. However, this does not happen. In order to have a well manicured, nice looking yard, it takes management. With care, and control over the weeds and undergrowth, I can keep a nice yard.
In other words, in order to keep a peace and desirable condition, sometimes it takes management.

Disagree.

Stanley Hauerwas makes the distinction between violence and protective force. In teh case where someone does something violent to another, not acting in defense of the victim is implicitly condoning the violence and thus is itself violent. So we have to make a choice, we can't avoid it. We can step in and use protective force - just enough physical compulsion to restore the moral sphere that was broken by violence.

Peace is kept by wisdom, altruism, compassion, patience and so forth. Nothing else is peace by the same definitions of the above, however people DO define "peace" differently given their causes and conditions in life... so it's variable. My opinion, given in that first sentence is a Buddhist one... others can tell you their "version" if they like.

Peace has to be kept by force otherwise we would live in a world dominated by anarchy.

Peace is knowing your enemies are dead.

Example: We haven't been at war with Germany for over 60 years now.

We may not be able to keep peace with force but we can sure try and keep our freedom by defending it. I am not going to let a thief come into my house and try to take my family from and freedom from me without a fight.

People can be kept from killing each other by force, but that is not peace.
