OK so I was looking in to buying a mobile home but after the recent 5.6 earthquake we just had here in San Jose, and apparently another one coming from the Hayward fault. Is it really safe to live on houses that have almost no foundation under neath? .

It is arguably less safe to live in a mobile home in an earthquake area than to live in a home that is solidly connected to a substantial foundation. The increased risk comes from the pier system typically used to support mobile homes. Mobile homes can shift relative to their pier system and suffer structural damage that wouldn't be as likely to occur in a solidly-anchored home. To more solidly anchor mobile homes and increase their safety in the event of an earthquake, an earthquake restraint bracing system (ERBS) may be installed.

I live in a mobile home and yes, the recent 5.1 shook quite differently than other 'grounded' homes I have lived in That being said, I would rather be in my mobile and have less fear of heavy stucco, plaster, beams, or possibly a second floor crushing me to death. .

Even if the mobile home falls off its foundation, you will not be hurt. The home would be damaged but the people inside would not be hurt. Now if it gets blown away by a tornado, THAT would hurt!

I would think NOT!
Who wants to live on an UNstable foundation?
