My daughter has to get a shot today and she is running around the house screeming and crying. I have to go in 20 minutes and she threatens to lock herself in the bathroom if we go. I tried to talk to her and tell her all that stuff but she could care less. I went on like 50 websites and nothing worked. Yesterday she was up ALL night crying and scared. Its impossible to get her to the car. This shot NEEDS to be done because she has a possabilty for a disease and we need to find out if she has it. I told her its just a shot, look away, everyone gets shots, think of something nice, it doesn't hurt, would you rather have this pain ful disease, blah blah blah. She doesn't care. WHAT SHOULD I DO. she is running around the house crying.

The anticipation is so much worse than the actual shot. A shot takes all of about 3 seconds, then its over. Small children are also hard to reason with. Talking about it too much can backfire - It seems the more you try to convince them why they need it, the more traumatic becomes. Even though you mean well, it actually does more harm than good to keep building this up.
6 year olds don't know or care about disease prevention, they care how they feel in the moment. Wait until the very last minute before you say anything. Then remind her of a time she skinned her knee, or something like this, and you can tell her truthfully that this will not even compare.

If she really needs the shot then pick her up or drag her to the car, just get her in there. Then when it's time to get the shot hold her down or get a nurse to help. If she needs it she needs it. It won't be fun and she will scream until her face turns red but it will only last for a few minutes and then it will be over. She may be mad at you for a while but it is for the best. By the way never tell a child that a shot doesn't hurt. It is a lie and they know that it does hurt. Why in the world did you tell her she was going to get a shot anyway?

I can't believe people are telling you to reason with her. She's 6 years old. She isn't going to understand that it's for her health or that she has to go in order to meet city or school requirements.
Who's the boss in the family? You or the 6 year old? Does this girl throw a tantrum and threaten to lock herself in the bathroom every time you ask her to do something she doesn't like? You may have a bigger problem on your hands than just a child that's afraid of shots. Get help now. Take some parenting classes or seek disciplining advice from other parents that you respect. If you don't you'll wake up one morning and discover you have an uncontrollable teenager on your hands.

My son's doctor used to always tell me to NEVER tell the child beforehand that they are getting a shot. You are just suppose to tell them they are going to see their doctor. That doesn't always mean a shot. That way, they don't have time to freak out for hours or days before the appointment. Maybe if you offer her a "special treat" for after, like an ice cream cone or something.

You tell her to stop it. You tell her that she may hate it, and you hate to have to take her, but it's for her HEALTH. You tell her to stop running around and crying. You stop showing her how much anxiety it's causing you (very important!). Then you tell her to grab some tissue and get her little behind out the door and to the car! Bathroom doors are unlockable from the outside. Don't let your daughter have the upperhand. Tell her to get her rear in the car, NOW. Easy as pie, you're the adult. Best of luck.

Well, when my little cousin who is 4 has to get shots, we don't tell her, it's sneaky but it gets her there. Second, we tell her she can go to the toy store and pick out something she wants. Or take her to the movies. There are plenty of ways to bribe her.

I had to pin my 4 year old down to get hers. She was brave up to the second of the shot going in then freaked out. I think it's just a survival instinct.
