This is a loaded question. Asking what the best military service is, is kind of like asking what the best kind of gun is. Most people will tell you what their favorite service/gun is without asking you a more important question. What do you want to do with it? You're already a step in the right direction with your goal of Law Enforcement (LE). The mission of the specific service is irrelavent in relation to your career in that service, unless you have plans further down the road in the LE field such as S.W.A.T. or forensics or K9.

Each military service has a specific mission, and the training for a job such as Security Forces (SF) / Security Police (SP) will be specific to that service, though the overall training will be similar. Air Force Security Forces have a mission to support the United States Secret Service for Presidential and diplomatic protection as well as protection of the largest nuclear arsenal on the planet. The Marine Corps provides security for U.S. Embassys around the world...in every country that has a U.S. Diplomatic misison. Due to the Joint environment that we currently operate in, there are many misison that are manned by all of the services.

I'll reemphasize that if you are looking at short term career goals, then it doesn't matter what service you go into. If you have, or plan to have a family then I would suggest that you continue with the Air Force. The Air Force deploys the least, has the best quality of life across the board and is generally the most relevant service with relation to civilian jobs. Regardless of the service you join. If you become a "cop" you will be guarding something at some point in your early career and it will be boring as all hell.

I've spent 10 years in the Air Force and it's been the best experience of my life. I've deployed all over the world and have had enough "training" to get me into any job I could possibly want on the outside.

No matter which service you choose, you will be doing something that the vast majority of citizens of the United States will never do. People talk about freedom, but you will be defending it.

Cheers!

You can become an MP. That would probably give you the closest experience to being a Police Officer. I personally enjoyed the Air Force but I have been told that Coast Guard is basically prep school for law enforcement. I'm planning on getting into the Coast Guard after the AF.

Wow. Being in the service is a big step to take and I commend you for that. I have been in the Army for about 4 years now, and I have been on 1 combat tour (12 months) and currently heading to Iraq for 15 months. I love it. The only thing I can say about the Army compared to the Air Force is the Army will guarentee any job you want in contract. Not to mention all of the additional training you can go to such as airborne school, air assult school, ranger school ect.
A lot of it depends on your prefrence for jobs. Make a list of what you want to do, bring it to the recruiters and tell them thats what you want. Either they can hook you up with that job or one similar to it.

I'm in the same boat you are in. I also wish to go into law enforcement, the air force is always recruiting for "security Force's" which is the Air Force equivalent to the other branch's "MP" or military police. You have to do 3 years to qualify to choose a specialty such as K-9 or forensics.

Hey not all recruiters will tell you whatever to get you to join--my soon to be husband is an Army recruiter and he tells it like it is; I've seen him in action. I may be a little biased, but I would go with the Army. Depending on your ASVAB score you are guaranteed a job, and you get a better bonus than the other branches. I'm even considering joining too!!!

United States Army.

Be all you can be.

We'll make you Army Strong!

Whatever branch you join, God bless you and all who serve!!!

Air Force's main mission is logistics and coordinating air transportation for the Army. An important job, but pretty boring. With the Army, you shoot rifles, machine guns, throw grenades, fire missiles, drive vehicles at full speed, drive and fire rounds from tanks, go airmobile, and jump from planes behind enemy lines!!! The fun stuff!!!

Marines are part of the Navy, so there is too much of a chance you can wind up as brig guard on a small boat in the middle of nowhere. Navy does everything for the Marines and pays them.

It really depends what you want to do in the service. If you've spoken with all branches, you're probably on track if you choose AF. They must have had something to interest you. One note, don't forget about the Coast Guard. There are a lot of good opportunities there also.

You serve the same country no matter what branch you join!

I personally know the most about the Army...and the Navy!

I still say Go Army....Beat Navy!

Either way you go. God Bless You!

There all excellent - if you tend to get sea sick wouldn't recommend joining the Navy, if you fearful of height's better stay out of the Air force, not very macho stay out of the Marines and remember those ca sons just go rolling along, Army.

I was in the US Army as a volunteer. I like the Coast Guard the best. You almost always will get a good duty station in the US. You don't have to go overseas to fight in a war...usually. The USCG has the best looking uniforms.

Good luck on your career.
