I can only speak for myself.But being a former Gordon "hater"(dont like the word hate at all but...),and Rusty fan of many years.I have found myself in a predictament for the last 2 years.I have found my self with no favorite driver.But many drivers that I would rather see win than aothers.I am sure many fans can relate.The shocker is that the more I watch the sport with an open mind and a teue love for the sport as a whole.I find myself drawn to the one guy that I used to despise.Being Jeff Gordon.I have sat abck and watched him perform his recent surge to become one of the elite drivers again.Needless to say he has arrived back up top again.Just as I suspected he would.This is exactly how you make pople repsect you and appreciate your talent.I dont think I will ever reach GORDON mania.or be afull blown "rainbow warrior"anytime soon.But I really do have a new found respect for the best driver on the circuit.I only hope that other fans of the sport have also noticed how good he is.And how muhc he truly loves the sport of NASCAR.He is one of the best to ever strap into a STOCK car.So my answer is "YES".I do agree with the article.And 'YES" I am a former non-Gordon fan.The only type of peple who don't like gordon are people who do not truly love this sport.Dont get me wrong.I went through the same thing with Dale,Sr.When I first started watching racing back in the lste 80's.But I never realized how muc hhe meant to the sprot until that fateful day in DAYTONA,USA.I never understood how much I truly respected and admired him until he was gone.So my advide to any race fan is this.Appreciate each and every lap as if it were the last one.Because as we have learned.That just may be the case on any given Sunday afternoon.

I read this article this morning, and just read it again. I have given it a lot of thought.

I don't think that people who dislike Gordon will start rooting for him just because he is the underdog. In fact, calling him an underdog because he is 30 points back seems rather silly to me. 30 points is really nothing. Calling him an underdog because Jimmie seems to have momentum on his side is even more idiotic. Just last week some of these same authors were saying it was Jeff's party, or Jeff's race to lose. Jimmie was the underdog. Funny how one's attitude can change with just one race.

Gordon haters it seems stem back from the days that Jeff raced Earnhardt Sr. and beat him. I think if anything Gordon haters are loving the fact that if NASCAR still had the old chase format he would be leading right now, but as it is, he is now second in the chase.

I do agree that Jimmie is pretty stuffy on camera. I have never seen him joke, or bust out laughing. Heck, he doesn't even smile much in personal interviews. The only time we see a real break in his demeanor, is when we see him do some of the best burn outs after a win. As if, he IS really enjoying himself, and mayhap has a playful side after all. Does his stuffy demeanor make him unlikeable? I don't know. Some will say he is too business like, and does not show emotion. Probably the same people who say Jeff is too whiney and pissy when things don't go his way.

I think all NASCAR fans make up their mind on who they like, and who they don't. Some are bandwagon jumpers, and some will stick by the side of their driver no matter the outcome. The ones that jump on the bandwagon (in this article's case it would be Jeff Gordon) will quickly jump back off again. Bottom line.

I have to be honest here, I am not a Jeff Gordon fan, but I do admire his talent as a race car driver. If I had to pick, I'd rather see Gordon win the Cup than Johnson. Seems as though Gordon has matured wisely but JJ still has that ********* to him. I am a Junior & Tony Stewart fan n never thought I'd be saying I agree!! Guess that's why they say....never say never =}

I'm a Tony Stewart fan and I can see how fans of NASCAR could start to root for Jeff Gordon now. He is seen as the underdog to a juggernaut like teammate Jimmie Johnson. He is very interesting and could gain more fans now.
