Stop doing it. Try and think before you speak. Literally stop your sentence, and replace words.

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask!! Ever hear that?
Well, for one, i can literally hear you! LOL, My husband is an ex-Bering Sea Crabber. And fisherman CUSS. It took some time, but it was worth it, I had to remind him every time his cussed for him to see exactly HOW MUCH HE WAS CUSSING! He started to notice it only after a few times of being reminded that he was doing it for him to take notice himself and start to put a stop to it!
Ask those around you, ESPECIALLY THE KIDS to let you know when you are cussing, and put up a "CUSS BANK" for them, every time they catch up using an inappropriate word ,they get a cash award, in the bank they they can use at the end of the week, or it can go toward a nice reward for YOURSELF when you finally have it under control! Take a vote on it, I'll bet that the kids will want you to get something good out of doing this for them!!
Cussing is a nasty habit and I applaud you for your efforts!

First, keep in mind that swearing is an important aspect of being able to verbally express yourself. You don't want to NEVER do it, you just want to do it when it is appropriate for transmitting information better and not when it's only getting in the way of what you're saying.

That said, I suggest that you start by attacking the habit on two fronts. First, expand your vocabulary so that you have other words and sentence structures to use in order to express yourself so that swearing is not longer as necessary. Second, be careful to examine everything you say, and even think, with conscious attention, and then try to think up other ways to say it or think it that don't involve swearing. Yes, I know, swearing can feel so satisfying sometimes. You need to recognize that excessive swearing is not actually helping you transmit information any better, and that there are sentences that don't involve swearing that could convey the same meaning while being more efficient and sounding more intelligent and refined. Keep in mind that at 20 years old, you're still fairly young, the habit may tend to drop away as a few more years pass and you start thinking of yourself as more of an adult.

I cuss alot. I used to be worse before I had my kids and I toned down alot, I knew I didn't want my kids cussing. Oh I'd still cuss when they weren't around! It was like I knew when & where to cuss. and who I was around. I now have gandkids & really don't like them to hear Grama & Papa cuss if I slip with something mild I apologize right away and tell them I need my mouth washed with soap, My grandaughter who is 6 gets all over her Papa and makes him feel so guilty which is good. I think some of us have done it for so long it is a hard habit to break it is taking to years. but I'm almost there

At least you care and want to stop. I can't believe the common word that is used so much now. There are words that people get into trouble for lately...but what about this word? I hate to hear it...but it seems to be ok with the news networks. I'm glad at least one of you still cares. Guess this next generation will think it's just a common word to use. Maybe people should look it up in the dictionary. (It's probably in the new additions)
EDIT...I don't think you'll do the $5 thing..why don't you try $1..you might actually do that. Good Luck.

Here's is a suggestion: SWEAR JAR. Make a swear jar for yourself and every time you cuss, no matter what or when, donate a dollar to the jar. When you realize that you have little money or no money, you'll begin to understand that cussing can get expensive! Commit the thought to memory too and every time you cuss, you'll automatically "punish yourself" for your dirty mouth.

You should put 5 dollars in a jar every single time you cuss (no cheating!). Then, at the end of the week, count it, see the massive amount of money you just lost, and then give it away to someone (kids, friends, mom, dad). If you absolutely can't afford to put $5 in the jar, then you'll quickly learn your lesson, eh? Much luck! I'm a cusser, I hope to never get so bad that I have to punish myself. ::crossing fingers::

I used to cuss a lot when I was around certain people . When my kids were around I did my best to keep it clean till I was free of it. I would say things like oh sugar instead of s* or halifax instead of h*, or beachs instead of b* sasafrass instead of a* and things like that.
Eventually I'd forgotten about cussing and if I felt like it again I'd just bite my tongue or walk away. or even thing it in my mind. As no one would know I was thinking it.

I hope you succeed at your efforts to stop

Every time you curse you have to put 5 dollars in a jar, and then at the end of the week you have to split the money in the jar with all of your family members around you.

You'll get tired of them spending your money.
Tell them to help, they'll make sure you contribute to the jar when you curse.

Good Luck :)

If you think it is bad and you don't want to do it in front of children, that will help you in stopping it. Many people find it offensive and will see you in a different way if you swear. Think about what you are saying. You will find yourself doing it less and less.

Every time you cuss, put some hot Tobasco sauce on your tongue or make yourself suck a hot chili pepper. A few times of that and you should be more careful.
