1. Truly peaceful, non-violent. Consistently follows it’s own core ethical teachings. (i.e. 10 Commandments)
2. Protects religious members from sinful religious leaders. Disciplines appropriately. Does not condone killing, torture, religious persecutions, and molestation under any circumstances.
3. Believes in corrective punishment. Fair justice.
4. Teachings consist of the existence of good and evil spiritual warfare. Actively participates in helping those in need. Feeds the poor, shelters, etc.
5. Teachings consist of the dangers related to hosts, mediums/spiritualists, fortune telling, etc.

Well, I'm not sure how many people can give a serious educated and sourced answer over yahoo answers, but here it goes from the top of my head.
1. Charities ranging from taking care of Lepers to feed the Children going on now. red cross, the list goes on.
2. major religions have kept records that help archaeologists.
3. people find a will to live and do good works sometimes. That's positive.
4. early Christianity and other religions pushed to limits of technology in the name of a higher power.
5. churches provide a structure for nuclear families thereby providing the world with children of healthy mind and body better equipped to handle the challenges of the word.

1. Because you are not free and have been brain-washed to believe in them.
2. Because is only for a goat to follow the sheep (and fall into the well of ignorance).
3. Religions are the last place to find god and so you cannot blasphemy by doing anything within the boundaries of any one of them. (ie: you can do whatever u want without angering god - because god is not in the religions).
4. It is one way the smarties can gain power and money without incurring the wrath and jealousies of others in the society.
5. Because politicians support religions as both leaders are behind the same carcass
(Eg. the Romans and Jews were together against Christ.
the king tried to kill Krishna because he was a threat to the money and power.

Just support your own personal religion, do not bother about the religions which are not yours. They have their own supporters, and their own valid reasons.
