I want to install a home theater system in my living room and I want to mount the speakers on the surrounding walls. I have seen them where the speakers hang on the walls around the pictures with no visible wires. How is this done?

Well I went with flat wire. It was the easiest solution for me. They are thin and can be painted over.

Radio shack (of all places) used to have a small pamphlet that showed how to run the wires in a wall.

The wires come out a hole just behind the speakers and run down inside the wall. They come out a hole the size of an electrical outlet box near the floor for the run to the receiver.

First: make sure you buy CL3 or "in-wall" rated speaker wire.

Second: get a "stud sensor" and make sure there is no cross-beams below where you want to put the speakers. You may not have these in inside walls, but exterior walls will cause you problems.

Third: Near the floor - cut a hole to install electrical outlet box's. This will give you a hole big enough to grab the wire. Thread the wire through a plastic electrical outlet box. Buy blank-wall plates and drill holes for the wires for a neat look.

Or - call you local FireDog, Magnolia. They will sometimes do this for about $150 per speaker.

If you want a proper set up with no wires visible then a professional is the best bet.
