yes screw halo. they said that cod4 is going to be virtually identical on both systems, if not then the ps3 will be better.
plus you are better off getting a ps3 because...
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player
-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI
- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)
- because of the blu-ray's huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360
- online is free for ps3 not like 360
- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring
- you can browse the internet on ps3, no such thing for xbox 360
- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it
- developers stated that they will start using ps3 as the lead platform and port ps3 games to xbox
- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)
- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p
- built in Wi-Fi
- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)
- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb
- rumble returns in spring 2008
- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)
those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this
Now I want you to do me a favor, list all the reasons why xbox is better than ps3. I PROMISE you that nobody will get at least 5 reasons
Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $499 with motorstorm
40gb: $399 with spiderman 3 blu-ray
xbox 360(premium)- $349
(elite)- $449
if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper

Hey man, look, it's more sensible to get a 360 and keep your PS2. Trust me mate, you'll be much happier like this. Or get a 360 and PC, I heard Counter Strike is pretty good.
Question asker please don't take this as the answer.
Also this reminds me:
"Now I want you to do me a favor, list all the reasons why xbox is better than ps3. I PROMISE you that nobody will get at least 5 reasons" Promises were made to be broken my friend.
1: Xbox is capable of using ALL it's power. The Playstation DOES have 4 more power cores than the 360 but the PS3 is only capable of using the same amount as the 360.
2: Sony and Microsoft have a familiar online play.
PS3 has two modes. FREE mode and PAYED mode.
360 also has two. Silver and Gold.
Sony claimed to connect it was free. True.
Microsoft claimed it had a free mode. True.
On the 360 to play on ANY online game for the 360 you pay £30 a year for free downloads, online gaming, friends list, MSN and all the essential online gaming.
On the PS3 you pay £40 pounds a year PLUS £10 a week per game you subscribe to.
3: The PS3 is a nice system to buy, but between it's major releases like Killzone 2 and Resistance the games between them are RUBBISH! ( expect the occasional game ) The 360 has a pure steam of games that will never grow old. So if your gunno have a PS3, get a 360 BEFORE to play 80% of the time.
4: The PS3 hard ware's failures have increased but a ton since the 360 cured it's RROD of death issue. Adding a nice 60% for the PS3 and a nice 10% for the 360.
5: The 360 can have up to 120GB of space! That's nice and great! While the PS3 has a lousy 40gb.... and £50 more for a 60gb....
So there you go 5 solid reasons why the 360 is WAAAAYYY better than the PS3.

Ask yourself this: Do you want to get a system where there's a 33% failure rate or a system that has only a .02% failure rate?
If you get the 360, there's a 1/3 chance that it's going to go right back to MS for repairs. With the PS3, there's only a 1 in 5000 chance that it goes back for repairs. The acceptable failure rate for electronics is 2 to 5%.
Whatever exclusives Sony lost to MS, Sony also gained back. Bioshock and Lost Planet were supposed to be 360 exclusives, but that's no longer the case. It's just a matter of time before other games follow. Games follow the leader, and there's no doubt that PS3 will be the leader for this generation.
Halo 3 may be the 360's blockbuster game, but the PS3 has at least 2 games that could be Halo 3 killers: Killzone 2 and Haze. Killzone 2 looks so much better than Halo 3, and people have been talking about Haze.
You do know that Call of Duty 4 is also coming out for the PS3, right?

Depends how much you like Halo.
As others have said, C.o.D 4 is out for PS3 and is reportedly excellent, on-line and single-player (I haven't seen any 360 reports yet, though I've not particularly looked).
There gap in quality games the 360 had has definitely decreased, and, of course the PS3 is the only place you'll get to play Metal Gear solid 4, Final fantasy XIII, Gran turismo 5, Home, Little big planet, Tekken 6, etc.
<<< as for those 5 reasons above;
"Now I want you to do me a favor, list all the reasons why xbox is better than ps3. I PROMISE you that nobody will get at least 5 reasons" Promises were made to be broken my friend.
1: It's called being future proof. i.e. the PS3 will get better as developers learn to get more out of it, whereas the 360 is nearer its full potential.
2: Sonys online is FREE. You pay for the game, you pay your Broadband subscriber and that's it, you don't pay another penny.
3: A good chunk of the games are actually the same.
4: eh? nope!
5: The PS3 can have up to at least 250GB. You just but a new laptop HD and put it in. It doesn't even invalidate the warranty.
So there you go, 5 solid reasons debunked.
P.S. sorry to sound like a fanboy but that other answer was just so full of cr*p.

I have always been a Playstation guy, and i also thought about keeping my PS2 and going with a 360 but decided to go for the PS3. I do not regret my decision at all!! I love the PS3 and have a ton of fun with it. As for being able to play your vintage games, the PS3 is back compatible meaning it can play the old games as well. You can use PS1 or PS2 games on the PS3 which i think is pretty cool. I have never been big into HALO so that wasnt part of the decision for me, but the PS3 is great. Online play is still free which is pretty cool and the price of the unit has gone down quite a bit. Unless you are going to use your PS3 as a computer or media player (downloading songs and all that) i recommend going with a smaller hard drive. I bought the 20GB version when they first came out and it is plenty!
I cant talk bad about the 360 because i dont have much experience with it, but i can tell you that the PS3 is great and i love it!

I used to have a Playstation 2 but traded it in so I could buy an Xbox 360, but I definately recommend the PS3 if you have a PS2. Get one that is backwards compatible so you don't have to buy all new games, and plus COD4 is on the PS3. You also get free internet on the PS3 compared to $50 a year for Xbox live. Halo 3 is good, but it is definately not worth getting an entirely new system for. So stick to Playstation...I wish I would have

The 360 seems to be the current winner in the next gen race. Even if the PS3 peaks out, you have at least another year before deciding that.
EDIT: Wow...rampant fanboyism. To elaborate my point, I will get a 360, and a PS3. But the 360 comes first, because of support and amore established start.
The PS3 has been versioning madly since it's debut. When the dust settles, I expect to see a PS3, for about $350-450 with FULL PS2 and PS1 capability. Until I see this, I see no reason to jump. I also want to wait for FF13, UT3, and a few other deal-makers.
Until then I'll get a 360, with Halo3, BioShock, Forza, and many more current-day exclusives.

If you are happy with Sony products go for the PS3.
COD4 should be more entertaining than Halo3
PSN is free to play, XB Live is $50 a year, so if you want online gaming dont listen to people who say XB is cheaper.
There is a $400 PS3 now with blu-ray player, wifi, 1080p, and a 40G HD plus Spiderman 3 Blu-ray. The only thing is no backwards compatibility.
PS3 has a tremendous lineup of games coming out now and in the near future.
Xbox has great games out also, so if you really need halo and dont mind paying to play it then go for the Xbx.

go ps3. any games that u like on the 360 will end up on the pc anyways. to be honest exclusives on the 360 are nonexistant. the 360 is a console that plays PC games and it overheats? if u do opt for a 360 wait until they fix their overheating hardware cause i am sure u will go postal if you play a game within one week and the system dies on you. ps3 is a much better console. wait it out for now if you wish, there are hundreds of great games for the ps2 to keep u busy for a good while.

360 and the ps2.... there's no point in getting a ps3 until late 2008... most games that were ps3 exclusive are going to be on the 360 as well. Plus you're saving a bunch of money.
I know 3 people with ps3's and they're not happy with them.
