It depends on the severity of the problem. If it is a service engine light it's probably no big deal. Find someone with an OBD2 reader, (if your vehicle is 1997 or later), then they can check what it is specifically. Chances are it will be something minor. Some maintenance places will tell you what the problem is for free, while others will charge you up to $60 just to diagnose. It's much better to buy an OBD2 reader yourself than bother with that. Mine was $150 and can clear errors as well.

Have you ever heared of a saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" that means that it is much easier to do something to prevent a problem than to deal with it after it has happened. Or "A stitch in time saves nine" about the same thing, it is better to spend a little time to deal with problems or act right now than wait. If you wait until late, things will get worse, and it will take much longer to deal with them.

It depends on the problem. Many problems can become a LOT more expensive if you wait. Some problems can create whole new problems from waiting. Good luck.

I wouldn't wait at all. Ignoring or going longer could possibly cause other problems depending on what the original problem is. Ends up costing more money in the long run.

Strait away before the problem gets serious. If its a scratch or dent wait about a week but then you just look stupid driving around in a smashed up car

It's usually best to attend to it right away or it will get worse. Brakes for example, are relatively inexpensive if fixed right away, but if you wait, you may need new rotors aside from maybe killing yourself cause the car didn't stop.

If you are finacially able you should get it checked out right away. Waiting will most likely only make it more costly in the end. If you take proper care of your car you can add years to it's life and value to resale.

Not too long. The longer you wait. . . the bigger the problem and the more expensive it can become.

I wouldn't wait because chances are the longer you wait the worse the problem will get or you could get stranded somewhere.

The sooner you have a problem looked at the less it will ultimately cost. Running your car when it is not working properly can and cumulative effects.
