Like you i believe my primeval ancestors come from Africa in the beginning. Though unlike you my skin is not brown. I am neither Black or White, my direct ancestry i have traced back to the Punjab my people left there about 1000 years ago I am Rom ( a Romani .... Sinti / Romanchalle) We, or should i say my ancestors came to the U.K.with King Richards return from the first crusade (1096 - 1099) in which my people served as his personal bodyguard we being non Islamic. Im also a serving member of the British forces, R.M. ( now deployed ) However I do not think i need to say where! I was born in County Galway (Ireland) though i was registered both in Galway Ireland and the British Borough of Meriden in Warwickshire ( that is where my parents hale from) My name is Veshengro, which translates directly from Romanese chib (my native tongue) to Smith in the English language. Hence now I use the English! Hope that answers your question satisfactorily! Greetings from the Sandpit...... Cant wait to get home again...... soon! C/Sgt Smudge Smith ......I just read your comment thanks.....Have fun reading the link it is i think you will find very interesting particularly the Obama section.... Abe

Yes, My greatgrandparents came through Ellis Island in New York.
They learned ENGLISH.
They got JOBS.
They VOTED.
They PAID TAXES.
They flew the AMERICAN FLAG.
They were PROUD TO BE IN AMERICA!.
The did NOT-
Protest
Steal
Sponge off the Governement
Fly their FORMER countries flag ABOVE ours
they did it without-
Government Supplied-
Food Stamps
Medical
Housing
They earned their way and their right to be here. Not by just sneaking acroos a border inthe middle of the night!!

For the most part, no. I know that my family came over from the 'Old Country' at some point, but, with the exception of one Great-Grandmother, I don't know any details as to when or under what conditions.

Yes, both sides did it quite legally and not so long ago in fact we still have the certificate of arrival from Ellis Island along with his citizenship papers on my fathers side. As for my mothers side of the family they burned in a house fire but are on file in the archives.

Yep.
My father's ancesters came to America (and Australia) as either indentured servants, or prison workers.
So, in essence, we were slaves until we "paid our debt" to society.
My mom's family immigrated freely, fleeing Holland and France in search of a better life.

Yeah, half of them were already here and the other half came from Spain in the 1500s, they mixed and created some beautiful people in what is now New Mexico.

Yes, it was before Hitler came into power, but he was starting to rise. We are not Jewish, but they didn't like what they saw & heard. They left & came to America thru Ellis Island, & applied for citezenship & became legal immigrants. They built a life & raised several generations. Legal is the operative word!
