I'm not sure if maxillofacial surgery qualifies under FSA since technically it's oral surgery which is allowed under IRS rules. Anybody knows or has experience with this?

it has been my understanding that a medical FSA is for those things not covered by regular insurance, call your insurance provider to be sure.

It should cover whatever is not paid for by insurance. It probably depends on the procedure.

My flex plan says it covers "Oral surgery", which maxillofacial surgery should fall under.

If you want to be 100% sure, ask your plan administrator. I am sure mine would cover it, as I went to a maxillofacial surgeon to get my wisdom teeth removed, but I don't know if all these plans are the same.

Are you doing something cosmetic? Flex plans tend to not cover those type of elective procedures.

I'm not sure, but before you set up an account and put that $$ aside, check your health insurance benefits. I've got that done (maxillofacial surgery on lower jaw plus chin job) about 6 mo ago and my health insurance paid for all of it (I only had to pay $15 hospital admitting fee and btw, I went home the same day). Please check into that, maybe you can save yourself some money :) Good luck with surgery too :)
