This person has no bank acct no ss or penision and no money just a paycheck, I was told they can take up to %10 of my friends gross, someone else was in this same spot and told my friend the same thing, he had no assests or bank accts, and he never made a deal with the irs and they just take %10 of his gross paycheck any help ty

If a taxpayer is single, IRS will be paid everything over $168.27 per week. It will stay that way until the account is paid or the taxpayer can produce a letter showing he is about to be evicted or have his utilitites shut off. Well that usually happens after they give you an opportunity to file an extension and to setup a payment plan. Tell your friend to contact the IRS and deal with his / her issue directly because if they have to come after you then they can act without mercy.

Depends on where you live, but 10% sounds very low for being the most they can take out.

Check out Publication 1494 at www.irs.gov It will show you a table for figuring the exempt amount. (what they can't take).
It is based on Exemptions claimed on his tax return. This is what his employer will receive.

if it is like a garnishment, the max would be 25%, I think, or they can retain his entire tax refund, if any.
