The Comet brightens mysteriously by a factor of a million?
Maybe some of you can enlighten us here why it has>??
Since 23 October, it has brightened by a million times and now resembles a bright yellow star.
A yellow Star in Judasim is the Star of David stands as a reminder that for the Jewish people...IN GOD WE TRUST
The six points of the Star of David symbolize God's rule over the universe in all six directions: north, south, east, west, up and down.

"This is equivalent to the planet Saturn suddenly becoming as bright as the Full Moon," David Morrison, senior scientist at the NASA Astrobiology Institute in Moffett Field, California, US, wrote in an email newsletter.
So what is it?

To be brutally honest with you, a scientist is _anyone_ who uses the scientific method in answering a question.
If you mean _professional_ scientists, I doubt that any pros are using Yahoo!Answers, but I could be wrong.

Having said that, _this_ scientist does not yet have enough data to begin a hypothesis.

Well, since astronomers and NASA have no idea why the comet brightens, that must mean that there is a supernatural explanation.

Clearly, anything that cannot be immediately and conclusively answered by scientists is evidence that a deity is behind the whole show.

Any unanswered or unanswerable question leads inevitably to the conclusion that there must, of necessity, be some omnipotent sky father running things.

From the encyclopedia it says a comet is made of dust and gases but I thought that NASA had sent a probe into a comet and said had rock core? Anyway it will take power to start a chain reaction in the gasses, lots of power. Most people will be taken back that I would suggest this, being a Christian, I can not think of anything but a spaceship. lol. And it does say in the Bible, 'other sheep will hear my voice'

That isn't the first comet that has done that, and it won't be the last. That is thought to be caused by a rapid outburst of gas when the comet is in close proximity to the Sun. It suddenly surrounds itself with a cloud of gas and dust and that makes it a lot more reflective. It has been a little hard to study it because it lasts for a relatively short time, but it is one of the reasons that most astronomers don't think that hydrogen bombs would be very effective to change the orbit of a comet.

The Canadian Atheist demonstrates very well the hypocrisy of atheist. Here is what the article actually said...

"Scientists speculate the comet has exploded because there are sinkholes in its nucleus, giving it a honeycomb-like structure."

The hypocrisy comes in because they take this "speculation", take it on blind faith, and go out and state it as fact. This is the exact thing they accuse believers of doing.

The TRUE answer is, no one knows what has caused it yet...it is a unique situation. And I'm sure there are other "speculations" out there besides the honeycomb one that The Canadian is trying to pass off as fact.

Aw Jeez. Send in the clowns.
Why is it whenever something new or weird happens it is "Gawd's sendin' us a sign!!"
I don't know why the comet is flaring, but I doubt it has anything to do with mystical extra-planar deities of goat herders from 2000 years ago.
Sorry if I was harsh, I just don't like to see astronomical events manipulated for religious reasons.

The chemical component burned was H2O untill now, but the sunlight could have reached frozen flammable liquids inside increasing its brightness.

No need to connect it to a religion.

Your question is answered, peace.

What? How are we supposed to answer this if there has yet to be a scientific answer? There are two answers we can give you. 1. We don't know yet, science will research it, or 2. God does it.

People on here who like science don't claim to know more then science, they just claim to know more then the scientific ignorant people. Fundies are the ones who claim to know more then science.

So scientists "have no idea"? WOW*

Well, it all has to do with the comet's chemical components and mass, solar wind and direction.....no gods or similar backward cavemen superstitions are involved in the process.....

* This WOW actually means "yeah right".

What ARE you talking about?
This is a well known phenomenon. It's not mysterious, nor is it strange.
The comet is "honeycombed" and the ice is vaporizing quickly because of solar winds.
Nothing more.
