The same people who now say we shouldn't be the "World's Policeman" will say that we are being selfish and arbitrary.

The money we save in foreign aid will undoubtedly be spent on some useless pork barrel project.

As soon as there is ANY conflict in the world, no matter the circumstances, the US will be blamed because we "didn't do our part."

Being that so much of the money we give to foreign countries goes to nations that are NOT desperate for aid, the biggest effect of cutting foreign aid would be a reduction of the influence we have over the policies these nations pursue. It would be harder to get their politicians to bend to our will.

Most of the money goes to Israel and Egypt (and with the war now Iraq is the biggest recipient by far!)

Then a lot of foreign countries would be very unhappy with us, even though they don't get a dime from anywhere else.

And, many third world countries would have to get their act together.

What we spend on foreign aid is a trivial portion of our overall spending. What it can buy in terms of cooperation and goodwill us priceless.

For everything else, there's Master Card.
