There is some evidence that taking Fish Oil and/or Flaxseed Oil both with Omega 3 fatty acids can help lower cholesterol. Other options are to eat Cheerios and/or oatmeal. Reduce fat in his diet -- this is not as difficult as it sounds. Replace one meal of red meat with fish or chicken. Use whites of eggs instead of the whole egg. Use reduced fat cheese. Using many little changes can create as significant effect as doing one BIG thing. I lowered my cholesterol from 215 to 197 doing little things.

he needs to eat a diet high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and stay away from saturated fats. stay far far away from red meat.. oatmeal and cheerio's are good for breakfast. White meat chicken is great..be sure it is skinless. nuts are good, almonds are supposed to be real good, peanuts don't benefit much, but they aren't bad. Margerine has no cholesterol. He needs to stick with whole grain breads. Fruits and veggies. And he needs to eat plenty of green leafy veggies... they help thin the blood. be sure to ok the diet (inparticularly the green veggies) with dr... if he takes coumadin, it could cause side effects! Foods like fish are high in Omega 3 fatty acids...not all fish..tuna is good. Search fish that are high in omega 3's, those are the most beneficial!

Vegetables, leafy greens, fruits, legumes (beans), and whole grains (try sprouted grain breads like Ezekiel or Food For Life- Barley, millet, lentils, etc are very good choices). Oatmeal (like Quakers whole Oats or multigrain) helps lower cholesterol. Healthy fats such as olive oil, avocado, nuts, are healthy and good for you (the healthiest diets contain good fats). Protein sources (if you eat meat) are thin slice turkey, cooked chicken (NOT the skin), etc.~ Beans (a healthier choice than meat), and soy products (deffinately a much better choice than meat if you eat meat and are watching your cholesterol). Instead of dairy foods which, regardless of 'low-fat' or 'fat-free', still have cholesterol in them and saturated fats, try soymilk or nut milk. Good dairy alternatives are Silk, Almond Dream, Soy Dream, etc. Complex carbs found in -all the above- keep you full, give you stable energy, and help you to stay clear of the 'bad foods'. Drink 5-8 glasses of water a day~ water kills cravings, flushes toxins and excess fats out of the body (good if you want lower cholesterol), and aids in the digestive track. Try eating more natural, whole, pure foods and your cholesterol will drop, plus you may have more energy and feel healthier. Stay away from fast food, bakery goods, the usual obvious fatty foods. DO NOT drink soda, soda and high-sugar drinks do not count as nutritional nor do they take place of drinking water. White breads, pasta, etc are stripped of their nutrients and are not very wise choices. Also, regardless of whether a meat is titled 'lean', it still contains animal fats, which clog arteries, so be more careful when eating meats. Do not eat egg yokes, pork rinds, high-fat meats. Ingredients that are animal fat based~ lactose, cassein, lard, ambergreis, fatty acids, etc. High-fat foods - the fats labeled saturated and trans fats are VERY BAD especially if you're trying to bring you're cholesterol down. Sugar info- (Just to know). Try to buy foods that do not contain High fructose corn syrups, aspatame, sucralose, or sacharrine. I reccomend visiting your local health food store for a wide variety of clean-eating foods, and the employees can help if you have any questions. (Plus, if you have a sweet tooth, some stores carry tofutti - tofu ice cream- , or other naturally low fat treats that don't affect like bad-fat Oreos, etc!) Hahaa btw Im like, 15, and want to become a nutrionist and physical therapist/trainer, so I really hope I gave you enough info, and that your cholesterol is in good health :]
