Can I have a car loan under my name and have the title under mine and my parents name as a main cosigner? Then have insurance under my parents name? Is it possible to have the title under my name with no cosigner and insurance under parents?

I just want cheaper insurance that's all.

whoever the car is titled to has to carry the insurance. if you are the only one titled on the car, the insurance has to be in your name. if its titled to you and your parents, the insurance must be in their names AND your name. if you title to you and your parents, you can write the polciy in both names and put you as an occassional driver and list your parents as the primary drivers, if you have more drivers than vehicles. this would help keep the premium down.

Cosigners are on LOANS. If their name is on the TITLE, then they are a CO OWNER.

The name on the title, the registration, and the insurance policy must all match.

Giving your parents your car is a very risky way to "lower" your insurance rates - and it means any claims will get paid to THEM, not you.

If your parents co-signed for your car loan, they will be on your insurance as well. Talk to your agent. Having your parents on there should give you a multi car discount, and them on their policy as well. You could re-finance your car and get the tytle under just your name; If you are approved, but if that was the case there is no way the agent would put the car policy under their name (Unless you are just making them authorized drivers). Try getting quotes from other companies too. I have State Farm, I love them. AAA is pretty cheap too.

If there are co-signers, their names are on the loan. The title can be under yours and your parents name. You can be on the insurance. easier to just have you added to their insurance policy. You cannot own the car and use your parents insurance though. Since it will have a lien, the lienholder can advise you on the insurance requirements.

Car must be insured by owner and primary driver in most states. Loss payee is going to key off the title and the loan.
