The original Gadiantons were a goup that used various secrets for illegal gain- information, secret handshakes, etc.

Today, any organized crime syndicate or other group that operates outside the law could be considered Gadiantons....

Mafia
most any street gang
Enron
Tyco

The list goes on.....

Because they were wiped out during the Book of Mormon times.
I would venture a guess that there are many modern day Gadianton robbers in the news, they just use a different name.

It has merely become a term used in reference to people who have become so steeped in wickedness that they combine to persecute the righteous. And I see evidence of them in the news on a regular basis...

Its another name for an evil, secretive organization that plunders the right, and spreads evil. Do those kind of organizations exist? Ahh yes they do.
