She insists on only Hardee's because their sauces have more vitamins. I think a little variety is good in a child's diet. What can I do to get her to see the light? Our children's nutrition is at stake here!

Nutrition is the last concern when you are debating McDonalds and Hardee's. Just because there are more vitamins in one over the other there are still a whole lot of calories. My kids eat the fruit parfaits (berries and yogurt) apple juice, and apple slices, and milk, from mcdonalds and I think its pretty darn healthy compared to fries and a burger.

There are 22 categories of chicken (which it sounds like they are eating if you are referencing sauce). 1 being the best and 22 being the worst, not necessarily bad but the most processed and not as pure of meat. McDonald's uses 22 for there nuggets and all the fast food chains follow suit. The types of meat should be more of a concern then vitamins in the sauce. That is the silliest reasoning I have ever heard in my life. A fast food restaurant is not where you go to give your kids food to get vitamins.

There should be no reason that the kids can't eat at McDonald's on occasion. I do not think you will find allot of nutrition there but it is fun and kids are allowed to let their hair down once in awhile. Hardee's isn't exactly nutritionally wise either. But that too should be okay now and then.
I hope your kids are learning how to make choices of their own. Instad of every single meal eat just what mom feels is valueable.. Someday mom you may not be there and I am sure you would like the kids to look wise enough to make a choice without your approval... Best wishes to your family

I totally agree that your children's nutrition is at stake here, but I cannot see how McDonald's and Hardees are any different.

Tell your wife that her logic is faulty.

If she is concerned about their health, eating ANY form of processed, fast food (including school lunch) needs to be avoided completely.

Eliminate sodas, sugars (including masked sugars such as high fructose corn syrup), white flour and bread, and as many processed foods as possible, replacing them with water, milk, honey (as sweetener, NEVER artificial or diet sweeteners), whole grains (be sure and check labels: a package saying "wheat" may not be whole grain), and fresh fruits and vegetables.

If she does not go for making these diet changes, then this has nothing to do with nutrition and everything to do with a McDonalds vs Hardees debate. Just tell her that saying Hardees has ANY vitamins is like saying you burn calories opening a soda.

Either way, with such faulty logic on her part, you have totally won this argument.

I think picking and choosing nutrition between McDonalds and another burger chain is kind of missing the point. Do you actually think that your kids are going to experience significantly different health benefits/detriment if they eat one fast food over the other? If eating fast food of any kind is a problem in your house, then cut it out.

If you are going to eat the stuff, why not eat a little of both in moderation? Although there are people that do not let their kids eat fast food at all, I am not one of those parents. I actually enjoy it once in a while and will share a meal of it with my kids.

As long as they are learning that McDonald's is not one of the food groups and pizza, taco bell and coca cola are the others, then you are on the right track.

You're right that variety is good for a child's diet. You can definitely get variety though without going to McDonalds. McDonalds is not a healthy choice for dining. Once in awhile is not going to kill ya, but you shouldn't make a habit out of dining at any fast food restaurant regularly, whether it's McDonalds or elsewhere.

WHAT?! Hardee's doesn't even have chicken nuggets - a staple of childhood nutrition. Perhaps you could slip in a little McD's Sweet and Sour sauce once in a while so your kids don't grow up retarded. And what about beef and lard immersed potato sticks?!

McDonalds, Hardees, its all CRAP! I agree with the first poster who said if you are concerned about nutrition (which you should be) cook for your kids, sounds like you have a lazy wife...she probably has some weight issues as well...none of that stuff is anything but saturated and transfat and chemicals....

neither one of these choices is the healthiest. Your wife is not doing your children any good by choosing Hardee's over Mcdonald's, there really is not difference in the nutritional value here. It really comes down to personal preference.

Your question received a lot of answers already. My two cents is go head and eat out as much as you and your wife wants. However, the kids need good nutritions. When you get fat and sick, don't cried about your medical bills being high and you can't afford it. It's a national illness in this country because people have gotten lazy. They all cry about paying too much for their Dr'.s bill.

I am pretty sure you are joking, right? Hardee's, McDonald's, etc. should be a once-in-awhile treat. Cook at home for the best nutrition for your kids and limit their sugar intake. Watch the documentary "Supersize Me".
