After you get a HDMI ==> DVI adapter to get sound you have to connect to a stereo with a red and white(RCA) input. Just hook up the PS3 to the stereo with the red, white and yellow(obviously leaving the yellow unhooked) the go into the settings on your PS3 and use the HDMI for video output and use the RCA option for audio output.

And how would Xbox not have the same problem??? Thats if the Xbox even turned on.

If your monitor has a VGA connector, you can buy a HDMI to VGA cable and connect it to your monitor.
