No, the story is about people becoming overly prideful and trying to get to God on their own terms and with their own agendas. Not humbly and respectfully.

The Tower of Babel is described in Genesis chapter 11, verses 1-9. After the Flood, God commanded humanity to "increase in number and fill the earth" (Genesis 9:1). Humanity decided to do the exact opposite, "Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth" (Genesis 11:4). Humanity decided to build a great city and all congregate there. They decided to build a gigantic tower as a symbol their power, to make a name for themselves (Genesis 11:4). This tower is remembered as the Tower of Babel.
In response, God confused the languages of humanity so that we could no longer communicate with each other (Genesis 11:7). The result was that people congregated with other people who spoke the same language - and then went and settled in other parts of the world (Genesis 11:8-9). God confused the languages at the Tower of Babel to enforce His command for humanity to spread throughout the entire world.

There is a theory that what Satan and his minions brought to mankind was technology, long before we were ready for it. However, as today, men did not use technology for the good of all, but in greedy and selfish ways...as is still true today.
(To this day a new discovery is more likely to be used either to destroy or to make money, or both, than it is to help anyone.)
God intended to delay the rebuilding of modern technology until the end of time...that is why He confused the languages.
Dan 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

God has created, is running, and will destroy the Universe. God is the Origin and Destination of the Universe. God was, is, will be everywhere, God was never Created and will never die / be destroyed. God is beyond Life and Death. All religions of world teach human way to get close to God. You give your Best, God will give thy Best. Ask God for help and forgive, God will help and forgive you. Pray; Worship and Thank God for everything. Remember wherever there is Happiness in Life, there will be Sorrow. To get Happiness, you must master Sorrow. For Success in Life; Believe in Self and God, Learn from Past, Concentrate in Present, Plan for Future. Have control on, be the master of, not the slave of your body, senses, and mind. Purpose of this Life is to Gain and Share utmost Knowledge and Experience to differentiate and choose Right, Good, God against Wrong, Bad, Devil. Set your Desire level perfect or OK to be brave, no low to be coward, no high to be cruel. You have rights of Survival, Self Defence, and Freedom.

True that they were trying to get to heaven, but they were not trying to know God more. They were trying to get to heaven without God, which is impossible.
He did not knock it down, he created different languages so people could not understand each other and finish it.

No. Babylon was formerly Bab-ili ("Gateway of the ilu"). The rebel ilu, Marduk put up an alternative launch tower there. The ilu leadership decided to destroy it and alloted regions of the world to settle disputes. In the process they also created new languages, but all have traces of Sumerian origin.

He confused their languages so they could not finish it and proclaim themselves to be "as God" and to cause them to spread out over the world and not be a single united target for Satan to once again deceive or corrupt as had been the case before the Flood.

One theory is that they were trying to build a tower that people could get into and survive another flood.

No because they were about to find out he didn't exist, which is a bit of a paradox.
