Not all parts see The middle east. However do not buy into a recruters lies that you will be stationed at home. Because at any time for any reason anyone in the armed forces can be moved and relocated to anywhere.

So be prepared but no not everybody from the navy is in the MIddle east.

If your husband isn't prepared to go to the middle east, he shouldn't join the Navy. My husband is a Quartermaster, he navigates ships, and he's being deployed to Iraq as an individual augmentee. I don't know how many of our friends from other ratings have been sent to Bahrain, Qatar, Afghanistan.. everywhere. Everyone has the potential to be called up for IA duty, no matter what their job or where they're stationed.

The only possible way he could possibly avoid the Middle East is by joining as some sort of air technician. And even then it's still likely he'll end up there eventually.
He won't be anywhere dangerous unless he volunteers to go ashore. And unless he's stupid he's not going to do that, now is he?

Hey Denise? I don't want to say you're wrong, exactly, but if your hubby's a QM, he doesn't navigate. He points the ship where the Officer of the Watch/ Navigator/ XO or CO tell him to.

Openyoureyes? Harder than you bloody think, smart ****. That's what happens when the workload goes up but the workforce gets smaller.

Yes there is the possibility of him getting sent there since he is in the military and there are people from all branches in the middle east, but since Army and USMC are infantry they are the most likey out of all the branches to be deployed to the middle east.

. I do not know many Navy people who have been sent to Iraq, Afgan, Kuwait-but a lot of Navy get stationed in Bahrain, Qatar, which are areas in the middle east. . From my understanding, Bahrains Naval station is a big hub that serves the soldiers in Iraq, etc. And it is considered a hazardous zone like Iraq is. Bahran is very nice, and when i was there i did not feel threatened.

There is also the possibility of his ship pulling into Iraq when they are underway or in more dangerous areas off the coast of Africa.

Does it really matter where he gets sent? If he's joining the Navy, then he's signing a contract to go wherever the Navy sees fit to send him. The fact that he's married means little; many who are deployed to the middle east are married and they're doing their duty. I don't mean to sound harsh, but I've been a Marine for 18 years; I'm married and I go where the Corps needs me. I've been to Iraq twice and I'm going again in 6 months.

I don't think so, but there is probably a pretty high chance of it happening. The U.S. still has naval bases outside the Middle East, such as in the Carribean and Okinawa, Japan, that need manned. If he is going to be a submariner, then he probably has the least chance of going to the Middle East. I think the majority of US submarines patrol the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The threat of another industrialized nation parking missile subs off our coast and bombarding us with nukes is still very real, even if not as high as during the Cold War.

What is the difference in a ships day to day schedule froma ship off the coast of England and off the coast of Oman? There is no difference! 90% of what sailors do is the same the world over. Now that 10% is what makes life interesting. When the dots on your radar are real planes and not make believe. When the fire you're fighting was caused by a mine and not a leaky fuel pipe. Consider how few rank and file sailors show up as casualties.

yes, EVERY RATING has the potential to deploy. The Navy especially is heavy on IA, where an individual gets seconded to an Army base to augment their numbers.

Certain ratings have a higher chance of being sent to to the sandbox, Seabees, HMs, MAs and Admin ratings especially. then of course every seagoing rating could end up on a ship or Sub that deploys.

your husband should be prepared to go to any part of the world whether it be hostile or friendly. the royal navy protect british soverign waters as well as operaations of their own.

unfortunaletly in todays climate there's probably a good chance he'll get sent to support operations in the gulf.

but dont worry because im sure he'll be quite safe on the water, probably the safest place to be thinking about it

He mayget sent, ha may not. Ultimately depends on what outfit he winds up with (fe, if he winds up on a sub or a carrier he may be in the middle east but might not be anywhere near direct contact with potential bad guys; OTOH, if he's with a SeaBee or medical unit it could be a very different proposition) and the needs of the service at the time.

Hope this helps...
