A breathalyzer is a device for estimating blood alcohol content (BAC) from a breath sample. Poppy seeds have no effect on a breathalyzer reading. Poppy seeds used for baking come from the same family as the poppies used to make opium. (Papaver) In the old drug tests that were used, if you had eaten poppy seed within a certain amount of time, it would show up as an opiate on your test. However, with new tests and new technology, we can tell if you have used opiates or if you just had a poppy seed muffin a few days ago. So don't worry too much about it.

Just on drug tests. I know this because I worked at an all male prison & whenever we served Sesame seed buns with the burgers, the inmates got all worked up, until we explained that it was the Poppy seeds that cause a positive reading when random drug tests were given.

Yep. Usually they have you fill out a form that asks for things that might impact the test.
