TO BE more direct lets not think here but use scripture as sourse of information, that alone is satisfactory

listen if the priesthood was done away with and the sacrifices too because we have now JESUS who now intercedes on our behalf and we can come boldy to the throne room through him with our prayers then someone is in error!.. JESUS alone stands as our high priest according to the book of hebrews, NOW if a better way is now available i can now go to THE FATHER and JESUS intercedes for me with the help OF THE HOLY SPIRIT as we read inromans 8, someone here is wrong!
I dont need a human priest to interceede for me if i am free to go directly to JESUS myself..AGAIN since jesus is now my high priest then their is no need of a human priest as their was before HIS death .. .
NO NEED to bring a lamb or dove for a sin offering either.. . THIS WAS DONE AWAY WITH . IT WAS FORSHADOWING THE WORK jesus himself would do according to paul in the book of collosians. dont follow vain and useless tradtions when something more valuable is offered to us.. yes , no ? explain; mj

Melchizedek was a high priest from the Old Testement, and Jesus was supposed to be our high priest after the order of Melchizedek, but considering how great Melchizedek was supposed to have been, it's a little arrogant fot the church to just decide that's how great they are too. I never heard anyone say that about the Catholic priesthood, however.

Kind of.

Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine, and being a priest of God Most High, he blessed Abram with these words: Blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your foes into your hand." (Genesis 14:18-20)

Jesus consecrated bread and wine into his Body and Blood.

So Melchizedek is in essence a forshadowing of modern Catholic priests.

This is also much discussed in the Letter to the Hebrews, see
5:6, 10; 6:20; and 7:11, 15, 17.

With love in Christ.

We learn more about Melchizedek in the Book of Hebrews. He was a great high priest to whom Abraham paid tithes. Christ was named a high priest after this order. Melchizedek was the prince of Salem. We learn from modern revelation that Salem was taken up into heaven like the City of Enoch. Jerusalem means new Salem and supposedly is on the sight of old Salem, or the city of Melchizedek. The priesthood was originally named after the Son of God but in order to avoid the too common reference to His name, they named the priesthood after Melchizedek because he was such a great high priest.

I read the same question. By the definitiion given--that Catholic priests offer their congregations Communion bread and wine as Melchizedek did to Abraham, the answer is True.

I think a Catholic priest answered that question, and trust me, any Catholic priest is going to be a lot more learned than most of us in YA regarding such matters. I'd trust his answer--and Father K's.

Not really. Only Jesus Christ can claim that. In that we, as Catholic Priests share our Priesthood with Him from whom all graces of Holy Order come...in that sense, we share it. But - only Jesus can claim to be in the same "order" of Melchizedek
