It is believed that the unit was started by Colonel Charles Beckwith (US army) in 1977. Throughout its creation, the unit had the benefit of experience from the British SAS, though there is no evidence suggesting it was founded by them.

No, but it was generally based on the ideas behind the SAS.
Col Beckworth, had served in the SAS as a young officer, and he used many of the SAS selection , training and operational ideas when forming the unit.
But it is not a direct copy of the SAS.
Delta Force is a bit more specialized than the SAS is.
The SAS charter encompasses the responsibilities of both the Army Special Forces and Anti Terrorism.
Since the US military is much larger than the British Military.
We are able to specialize a bit more than they can.
And of course, exchange programs between the British Special forces and US special forces continue to this day.
Along with exchange programs with france, Italy and germany.

No. COL Charlie Beckwith (USA, ret'd), who designed, organized and was the first commander of the organization, did an exchange tour with the SAS as a younger officer (captain or newly-minted major). Later on, he designed the SFOD Delta mission and operational set-up on certain aspects of the SAS' organizational and mission package(s). For more details, see COL Beckwith's book, Delta Force.

Doubtful. The U S Army Detachment Delta is a Unit made up of the Army's special forces aka Green berets. Delta Force was a Hollywood movie. I seriously doubt that the Brits had anything to do with this elite force of our Best.
