If you're not 100% sure, don't do it.

I decided to get a memorial tattoo after my grandfather passed away in the summer of 2003 but wanted to wait until I was sure. Then 9 months later I changed my mind. When my brother passed away 11 months after my grandfather (in 2004) I again decided I wanted a tattoo (the same one) to memorialize the both of them. I waited until October of 2006 before I finally sat down and got inked. A tattoo is forever, waiting a few years to make sure it is something you want is nothing compared to the rest of your life. I'm glad that I waited so long before I got mine.
I want more, but my rule of thumb is that I have to want the same thing in the same spot and same size for 2 years. A lot of people I've met don't wait that long and aren't that patient. Those are some of the people I've met who end up regretting their tattoo or getting it covered.
Just make sure if you don't decide to wait that it is something that really means something to you. Something that always will, not just at this moment. I only have my one tattoo, and it's 9" x 6", and everyday when I look at it it makes me smile with memories of my loved ones.

Like Mark B said, If you're not 100% sure, dont do it.

If you think you might regret your tattoo later on then the tattoo is not for you.

You know you're ready for a tattoo when you have an idea and you are absolutely certain you will want that for the rest of your life.

I thought about getting a tattoo once and had similiar cocerns as you. The more I thought about it the more concerned I got and then when I found out that getting rid of a tattoo can be worse than getting it in the first place I finally decided it wasn't worth it. That was almost two years ago and I have no tattoos and no desire to get one anymore.

Maybe you want to wait it out a few months when the Freedom 2 ink is on the market so you can get it lasered out in one session if you later regret it. Of course you would need it to be black and gray right now. The shop I go to is going to carry it when it is ready.

Uh... if you're already thinking you'll regret it, that's pretty much a huge stop sign. Don't do it if you're regretting it before it even happens. Make 100% sure you actually want it on your body for the rest of your life.

Also make sure its somewhere on you're body that won't stretch too much never sexy having a tatoo thats all stretched out. Finally absolutly don't tatoo a person's name unless it's your childrens names or your mothers never know who's going to be truely permanent in your life exept family.

Sit down with yourself...Just you!
Not all the people that have been
chattering in your ear. What is it
that you really want? When you can
figure that out, you will be ready to
decide, if it is time for your tattoo.
Never be in a hurry to get anything
permanent done to your body. It can
always wait till your mind is clear.....
Everybody is afraid of the unknown.
