I'm uploading PowerPoint (2003) ppts to a website to be viewed as tutorials. I want to embed the sound file into the presentation so that no matter who opens it from whatever computer they will still hear the sound. Is this possible?

Only WAV format sound files can be embeded in PowerPoint, see instructions from Microsoft official: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA012303071033.aspx

About other ways to do embedding, you may try Flash slideshow, that is, convert PPT/PPS with all linked multimedia files into one Flash movie. Since Flash is easy to be embedded in Web pages, so this way could be more friendly for anyone viewing your tutorials. And of course the sound is could be heard. Maybe you can try this way: http://www.sameshow.com/download/ppt2flash-download.html
