I get along much better with people who are willing to fight my ideas, rather than with people who are accepting of them.
I am a Christian and a lesbian, so I have gotten into many, MANY fights with atheists, homophobes, and obviously other Christians.
Sometimes, it gets to the point where we are messaging each other back and forth, and everything settles down. The messages don't really stop and we become friends, despite our differences.

I think I would simply ask them to clarify their position on whatever the question was and then decide if I wanted to carry on any further conversation. It is easy to misunderstand what is said here as we miss the subtle things that would be present if you could see the body language associated with the words. I am open to speak to anyone and am generally a very nice person who likes just about everyone, so I would probably be fine with talking atlength to the poster as long as they were not overtly hostile to me.

That wouldn't happen. There's no-one on YA I can't stand. Because I haven't met them I give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe if I did meet some I'd find them difficult, but I'd deal with it, not everyone's like me (thankfully).
If its someone I admire I'd love it, we'd probably have a great chat. Most of those I admire on YA I also disagree with so we'd have a good, amicable discussion. I reckon there'd also be those I technically agree with who I'd to be honest find difficult in real life.

I've met lots of people I've known online before. I find it hard to equate the two - the person in front of me is a stranger.
Forums/chatboards/emails can misrepresent someone entirely in either direction. It's best to start with a clean slate when you meet them. If anything, think of them positively as they entertained you / made you think at a time when the only alternative would have been WORK.

In either case, I'd probably offer a drink and perhaps some shared experiences. I realize that many people are different than how they sound as they answer, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

well... regardless of the scene - bar, coffee shop, park etc...
(A) a negative poster...would nicely walk away...
(B)someone who's posts I admire, engage in a lengthy spirited conversations after giving them a great big hug (hey I'm a hugger)...
(c) Linz... well, can't put what I'd do here.... *wink*

if I ever meet crimmson I'll ask if she really believes what she says here
and if I meet someone I admire - I'll probably make a fool out of myself, won't know what to say and will giggle like stupid

Bad person. I'd get to know them first. You never know. They might just be screwing around and are really cool in person.
Good person. I'd call them on some of the drinks they owe me. I'd pay up too.
