And why do religious types always try to explain evolution by saying "you think we come from monkeys" etc etc... It does not say that at any point, it just makes them look so uneducated and stupid....

Well I'm not exactly sure what examples you would cite as being "childlike" but consider this: A child's mind is open and untainted by society and social norms, or loss and pain. It is free to wonder and imagine and truly have faith in believing that anything is possible. As adults we have lost this natural curiosity and openness to possibilities so sometimes it is better for us to try to get back in touch with our inner child and see that the answers are much simpler than they seem. You just have to let yourself believe.

I believe in God AND I believe that humans of today evolved from a more ape-like state. God and evolution are not exclusive.

You sound really bitter. Kind of a shame that you are missing out on spirituality (and I do NOT mean religion because you aren't missing out on anything there).

What we don't understand is how one can think that over millions of years that man is the only creature on earth that can change it environment to the extinct that we have, if evolution is believed then there would be other species just as intelligent as man and able to speak to us on an intelligent level. Where are they? Let also include the millions of different types of bacteria, the thousands of different types insects, fish, birds, plants, animals and many other types of life including water. Never mind the perfect world that made it possible for all this life to exist not to mention the tens of thousands of different type of life that is extinct. I also don't believe in God as the Bible explains but I do believe in a Creator, it may be that the Creator is evolution itself, the funny part to all of this is we won't know till we pass from this world, either there is more or there is nothing and if there is nothing then who cares cause you don't know it anyway. But those of you who have you own idea of how you think it is try to insult the other, this includes both the religious and atheist side, why don’t you both grow up and realize that each of you are allowed your own opinion and just except that you don’t know the facts and never will and if you are bothered by others that don’t have the same opinion then go some where else where your belief is discussed. Don’t attack each other over religion because it doesn’t matter what you believe in, their both religion. To believe in or not to believe in are both an act of thought and or faith and there is no other way to look at it, they are both a belief in something.

Are these childlike?

Point 1: Argument from Motion

"What is moved must be moved by another object or being. It is impossible for an object to move itself. There can be no infinite regress here in things which move and things which are moved, for then there would be no first mover of the series; consequently, there would be no mover at all in the series. It is therefore necessary to arrive ultimately at some first mover which is moved by no other being: God."

Point 2: Efficient Causality

"Nothing is found, nor would such be possible, which is the efficient cause of itself; for such a being would be anterior to itself, and this is impossible. If the cause is removed, so too is the effect removed. There must be a first efficient cause: God."

Point 3: Possibility & Necessity

Beings such as ourselves have two possibilities, existence and non-existence. It is impossible, however, for all beings to have the possibility of non-existence, because if this were true then at one time nothing (all beings) existed, and only nothing comes from nothing. Therefore, we conclude there must be a necessity being, by which all other possible beings exist: God.

Point 4: Degrees of Perfection

There are degrees of good, of truth, etc, that exist in nature. They are "more" the closer they are to perfection, and "less" the further they are from it. If there are degrees of perfection then there must be also be perfection itself, something that is perfectly good, perfectly beautiful, true, etc. This being of perfection is thus the cause of all other things to which degrees and closeness of it a compared to: God.

Point 5: Order that Governs nature

Things that lack intelligence, e.g., natural bodies, still act toward purpose. Most always operate in the same manner in such a way to achieve the best results. From this it is evident "intent" rather than "chance." Whatever lacks intelligence must be directed by that which has intelligence, for example, an arrow needs an archer. The intelligence behind this order in nature is God.
Saint Thomas Aquinas, 1225-1274

Because it actually takes a childlike faith to believe in God Almighty, his complete control over all that is happening arround us all, including you. Remember when you where a child and trusted your parents or the adults that were reposible to make you who you are now? You had to have complete trust in all that was being taught to you as being accurate because you didn't know better to argue with wiser and older persons. Same with faith in God, I trust that he is in control of all arround me, so that faith keeps me feeling a great peace, knowing that everything I go through will help mold my character into a better person. To me it is very obvious that there is intelligence involved in creating what we call the universe arround us. Our mind, no matter how smart you think you are, is not capable of understanding all of creation or the creator. We have limits, we are bound by time and space, he is not. Do you see the wind? no but you know it exsists because the effects of it are felt and seen. So also is my faith in God, when you seek him you will find him, guaranteed ! That is his promise. He wants you to have these questions so that through curiosity you can find him and realize that faith is not something complicated, just a childlike, total dependance on his complete providence ! Enjoy seeking him and asking him all the questions you have for him, and keep your eyes open for the answers will be arround you.

The truth does not depend on what we prefer to accept. Religion is not something we can merely muse over and intellectualize. It has to be experienced. We really cannot judge anything we do not know. Religion is not irrational or unintelligible. However, there is that point where one has to study it subjectively. I know a former atheist who first thought that religion was irrational and cannot be studied. But he took the challenge to be immersed in it for a while. He experienced the life-changing power of God. He even learned prayer-healing. I don't think he was being childish when he drove out evil spirits.

It's all about faith. Some people believe some dont. Why should it bother the nonbelievers so? It's what weve been taught....it's what we believe. If you dont believe it's okay.

Lack of developing cognitive abilities like objective thinking, coupled with thinking anything that supports what is believed has to be right.

Because believing in God is something that requires Faith, which by its nature is rather unsubstantial when you look at it.

"Look, something shiny! God exists."

"Babies = miracle. God exists."

"I have no idea how that works. God exists."

"Aquinas' Five ways. God not only exists, but is MY version of god and anyone who says otherwise is WRONG." (Ignore internal inconsistencies in arguments.)

"Read the Bible, it self-fulfills all kinds of prophesies with no corroborating evidence. God exists."

"Look how awful the world is, humans are evil therefore God exists."

"Just believe."
