First, have your Office installation CD handy. Then go to Control/Panel --> Add/Remove Programs, go down to the entry for Microsoft Office, and click the "Change" button. When the installation menu comes up, check the box for advanced customization of the Office applications.

Next, under Office Shared Features, go to Converters and Filters, and then Text Converters. Make sure the option for Works is "Run from my computer."

If that option is already selected for Works and it still doesn't work, OR if there's no such option in the Office installation menu, the next step would be to go to Microsoft's website and see if there's a converter you can download and install. Good luck!

I do not know for sure on 2007, but all earlier version of Word have included a convertor that allow you to open works files. I would be surprised if 2007 does not.

Go into the COntrol Panel, and the Add/Remove Programs icon. Click it, and look through the listing of installed programs for Office 2007. Click it once to highlight it. You should get a "Change" button.

Click on "change", and walk through the install until you get to where you customize Word. Look under Word for the Filters and Convertors. There should be one there for Works. Check it so that it will be added.

Click the OK, and it should add that convertor. You may need to insert the Office CD for it to get the file(s) it needs to install. Once done, Word will be able to open Works text files.
