Start doing one area at time... Choose one room/one area.. Lets say a guestroom closet... Get some trash bins or storage bings and label TRASH, DONATE,KEEP... Really be picky about all the things you keep... If it's clothing be mindful of if it's still in style, does it fit.. Will you continue to wear the items.. If NOT donate ! It's also good to have maybe some friends help you... Just spring for pizza or something.. Have your friend(s) if possible take the DONATE items away when they leave.. That way you are NOT tempted to keep them ! Just keep going around the room until it's clear of any/all clutter... I have a friend that has a room that's about 15x10 ft. with one double closet, we just "cleaned" her room and we ended up with about 15 contractor bags of trash, 6 contractor bags of donate clothing and some furniture to goodwill... All in ONE ROOM ! It took about 2 weeks to get through most of everything ! In case you are not familiar with contractor bags.. They are heavy duty garbage bags that hold approx. 30 gallons ! Once you get through clearing out the room give it a good cleaning.. Dusting, vacuuming, wipe down surfaces/woodwook... Then bring back any items you wish to keep... Hang up all the clothing, Maybe invest in some type of organizer(s). I also like to utilize under the bed storage if need be.. A great place to store bed linens or seasonal clothing. Keep sentimental items to a minimum.. Maybe get a pretty hatbox and use for sentimental items.. If you have lots of pictures.. Think about scanning them to CD and getting rid of negatives OR getting rid of doubles or photos that didn't come out properly. If you can't bear to throw them away give them to family/friends. Good luck

Well I got one from the book "Ask and it is given". If you have alot of clutter in your home, get some boxes with lids, at least 20, also some index cards and a hand held voice recorder. First assemble the boxes and put five or six in the middle of the room you wish to organize. Number each box 1-20. now look around the room, focus on an item and ask yourself, "Is this item important to my immediate experience?" If yes leave it, if no put in in one tof the boxes. Pick up another item and continue the process as you focus on eash item in the room. Right now you are not sorting, just removing clutter. As you put an item into the box, speak into the recorder, for example " unopened pack of guitar strings, box number one" With 5 or six open boxes you can do some general sorting, you could put a stack of magazines in one box, or clothing, but don't get carried away with sorting. Just pick up an item determine if it is necessary to your immediate experience, and , if not, put it in a box, speak into the recorder what it is and what box it is in. At a later time you can take an hour or so and transfer the info from the recorder onto alphabetized index cards. under "A" write, antique doll, under "B", bathing suit, etc. You will feel better as the space becomes less cluttered, and you will not have to worry because you can always find exactly where the items are. Find a wall or garage where the neat boxes can be placed. If you do need something, your alphabetized index cards will tell you exactly where it is. After a few weeks when you realize that you have not needed anything from box number 3, for example, you could then move the box out of the house to storage or maybe you will want to discard of the contents, leaving box 3 availabe for new clutter that may arise. As you continue the process, you will begin to relax in the knowledge that you now have control of your environment.

(1) File don't pile.
(2) Keep similar things together, that way you know what you do or don't have.
(3) Whatever you are cleaning out, take out. Sort into piles of similar things. In addition, have two extra piles: one for throwing out and the other for giving things away.
(4) Everything needs an assigned place.
(5) Try to keep surfaces clear.

If you haven't used it in awhile, get rid of it. Have a garage sale for your gently used things or bring your stuff to a resale shop. Give to charity. Anything paper??? Shred old bills, recycle old newspapers and magazines. Organize the stuff you want to keep in cute bins. Hope this helps.
