I just found out that an ex boyfriend of mine, who put me through hell and stole, lied, etc., got out of prison in GA in June of this year. He'd been in since 2004, when I participated in a sting operation with the US Marshalls to put him there (I wasn't kidding when I said he was a bad dude). His last words to me were that he was going to 'get' me - now he's out, and I am scared. He was in the pen in GA, and I live in OK, so there's that - he doesn't know my address or place of work, and I have changed my car since he knew me. The only information he has is my dad's address - I am afraid he would go there.

What can I do to protect myself?

I think you may be putting the cart before the horse at this point in time. However, there is nothing wrong with being "cautious."

Inform you father of the situation so that he can start to keep an extra watch for activities around himslef and make him aware of the circumstance so that he may be prepared for any potential problem.

Living out in Oklahoma versus Georgia...I don't believe you will have any problems.

There are inherent dangers in everything we do these days. Just maintain vigiliance and caution as you would anything else.

Get a Protect Order. They hold up more than a Restraining Order, most of the time. Get back in contact with the US Marshalls and ask what you can do and what they can do. Tell them you are in fear of your life and your families. They can always have a watch out on your fathers property. That way if he does show up there they can take him back into custody. You can get either a restraining order or a protective order, but I would go with the protective order. What a protective order does is: it keeps him from coming near your or your place of residence! It keeps him from trying to contact anybody in your family, your job, your friends and everything else that goes along that line. It basicly keeps him away from you and everybody that knows you or has something to do with you. A restraining order has to do with a certain amount of space that has to be kept between you and him. Just contact the US Marshals to let you know what you can do and what your rights are as far as he goes!!

First, he may have learned a little something about consequences since being put in D.O.C.. So there is a chance that the man who went into prison is not the same one today. I am sure he doesn't want to go back to prison. But since you say he is a bad dude, it also seems logical to look out for yourself.

Putting distance was a good idea. My one piece of advice would be for you to contact his parole officer with your concerns. They should keep you informed of your ex boyfriends where abouts. It is a violation of his parole to leave the state, or in some places county without asking permission from his parole officer. Make sure and write he/she a letter. In the letter express your concerns, and ask that he not be allowed into Oklahoma without making you aware first.

If for some reason he is not on parole, contact your local law enforcement, and the victims advocate agency of the court house he was convicted for more information.

No victim should have to live in fear.

Contact the Marshalls you worked with, maybe they can help you out. it maybe that he is on parole and can't leave GA, but, that stopped any one before. Does he know what state you live in? Make sure you have an unlisted phone # and maybe get a post office box for your mail to be sent to for a while. Good Luck!

You can get a restraining order. Go to the police or the US Marshals and ask for help. They will help you.

Good luck!
