Well, you take this little itty bitty tiny wire and use a robot or a micromanipulator to press the end of the wire down on the pad provided on the etching, then a powerful enough laser beam is focused down very small, which is easy because of the way lasers work, at it is turned up to full power briefly and in that very small area the materials melt together and are welded.
