Will someone explain pentecostalism to me?

I dont understand some of the rules they place on women and the often old fashioned view on church attire.
i was raise pentecostal my entire life and over time became aware of its views on reality/women. No makeup or jewelry, no pants, no dancing, constant reminders that God made man to rule over women.
Instead of talking about women and men working together, the failing of the family is due to men not being head of houshold. A womand only salvation in life is to find God and a good husband, no female pastors allowed in church or as official leaders. I remember I missed out on prom, senior cruise, HS dances, going out with friends. No movies either.
All the things ppl take for granted I obsess over. I never got my ears pierced and I feel sexualy dysfunctional. There so many other things.
There is emphasis on the afterlife before this life. Whats the point of a religion that refuses to acknowledge half the world population & life?

Sucks you were raised that way... do you actually believe in all of that, or are you biding time till you can leave the situation? Are you doing ANYTHING about that situation- you know there are Christian and Non-Christian groups that you can join that won't treat you like that... I know I wouldn't live that way.

Is penetecostalism the same as Pentecostal Christian churches? I go to a Pentecostal church and we have very few of the views that you described. Women wear pants, even jeans, to church, women wear make-up and jewelry and while we acknowledge, that the Bible created man to be the head of the family, we know that women were given special rights and roles by God. Women don't need a husband to go to heaven. We go to movies and can go to dances. Your particular church seems extremely orthodox, but it is not the view of Pentecostals as a whole.

What is the point of a religion that refuses to acknowledge half the population and life? The answer is that we can't change God to fit the world's opinion. Christianity isn't meant to be adapted depending on our current culture. If we change our religion to suit the whims of the majority, we are no longer following God's will and His moral code. God's commandments are the same, no matter the time and the place. We, as humans, have no ability to change them.

That's the whole point. We are down here to find out about/discover God. Once you've done that, then you should follow whatever the religions teaching are on how you should life your life.

In your case you give the impression that you have never actually made the choice for yourself. If its not too late then throw away all that you were taught and start again and make the choice for yourself this time.

I wasn't raised pentacostal, but southern baptist, which is almost as bad. My grandparents played ina gosple band and we visited some pentacostal churches and I remember vividly having to be taken out because the preacher's yelling and ranting scared me.
Thank goodness I was able to choose for myself as a teen what I wanted to do and my religion didn't forbid proms and such.
I'm sorry this happened to you, and I can't answer the question why this happened to you. However, I can suggest some therapy for you. Accept the fact that there is a good possibility that there is no after life and try to take joy in everyday you have on earth.
Don't look back on what you missed...look forward to what you can do.

I was rasied mormon, women were suppose to be barefott and pregnant, and we were told that if it weren't for eve eating the fruit and adam as well, they'd still be int he garden of eden, but wait...thats still a bad thing, I was totally confused because women were suppose to be so spiritual and therefore men had to have the preisthood, and not the women and be subservient. You may have to try a more open christian church liek the church of God that allows women to preach, I think that is were Paula White is from. I rebelled in my teen years, I got tired of being told I couldn't hear from God. I went punk in the 80's, until I was able to be completely free, but I think I was too free. You don't want to go to far off the deep end or go to far to the relgious end either, somewhere in the middle is best.

You keep "obsess"ing over the things you've missed out on. But it's not too late to start enjoying life more NOW.

See a therapist about your issues. They are deep-seated and you need help. He/she will also be able to help with your feelings of sexual dysfunction.

Regardless of your personal religious beliefs, you've been raised to believe you're not worth much, and that's unhealthy.

A long long time ago, one of the Anachim/Nefilim gained supremacy over all the Earth. He hated the mother of his rival and one other female goddess so much that he started the prejudice against women. The custom was carried on down to biblical times.

You explained it pretty well. If you're looking for some logical reason for any of it, you're not going to find it.

Now you are in control of your life, however, so do with it as you see fit.

I am sorry that you were raised this way

but it is your life now - you do not have to continue living this way. I got away from my parents because I refused to live the way they wanted me to.

good luck
