I believe Jesus died for my sins and everyone's sins..I believe all that BUT why do I live my life in fear constantly for my sins? Everything I do I think about Jesus and what he would of done and sometimes I succeed in changing the way I think and sometimes I don't. I fear that I will ultimately go to hell because I sin..What does this mean? Does this mean my faith isn't 100%? Or is fear ok? Having fear means you believe in something. Genuine people answer only please.

I think some fear is OK, as long as it does not become paralyzing.

Each of us has his/her own spirituality, which is a very personal thing. You are being very brave in confronting your doubts and presenting them in a public forum that is not always..uh...supportive :)

For me, I decided a long time ago that God understands my periods of doubt. In fact, I think that to worry too much about "how strong is my faith" can lead to the temptation to NOT rely on God, but rather to think that I "have to save myself" by an act of supreme will power (believing with 100% perfect faith). It's easy to lose sight of "faith in God" and to replace it with "faith in my own faith."

How much more freeing to simply admit my own weakness! How much more open do I then become to God's grace! Paul boasts of his weakness. The apostles, who certainly believed, asked Jesus "increase our faith." The man who presented his son to be cured by Jesus responded to Jesus's question "do you believe?" with "I believe. Lord, help my unbelief."

I think faith and doubt go hand in hand. Learning to live with them side by side has deepened my awareness of God in my life. Yes, it's a paradox....but then so is the cross!

Fear is a human tendency, falls back to the spirit is so willing but the flesh is so weak. Satan loves to attack wherever there is an opening and fear is one of his tools. Your faith and trust in Christ is your salvations. Your love you show to others is what counts so focus on that and not your sins. Pray regularly maybe 15 minutes a day just about whatever is going on in your life. I will prayer for you today as well in the hopes you find the wisdom you seek. Email me any more detailed requests for prayer you may have.

Your Brother In Christ.

All of us who have faith in Jesus sometimes sin. Being a Christian is not being perfect. As long as we are in these bodies, we will sin. The main thing to remember is to ask for forgiveness daily for our sins.

Even the apostle Paul said that he had to die daily for his sins (ask forgiveness for them). He said that he was constantly in turmoil because he knew to do right and didn't always do it. And, that what he did wrong he didn't want to do. So, you see it is a constant struggle against the things of the world.

But, as you study God's word, and seek to grow closer to Him, you will see that those things happen less and less over the years, and your faith will grow tremendously stronger.

Also, Jesus said that when you accept Him, you belong to Him, and no man is able to pluck you out of His hand. Keep reminding yourself of that promise, and remember that once you are His, you are sealed till the day of redemption. You will never be unsaved again, once you have accepted His gift of salvation.

Hope this helps. God bless.

FAITH IS both a gift of God and a human act by which the believer gives personal adherence to God who invites his response, and freely assents to the whole truth that God has revealed. It is this revelation of God which the Church proposes for our belief, and which we profess in the Creed, celebrate in the sacraments, live by right conduct that fulfills the twofold commandment of charity (as specified in the ten commandments), and respond to in our prayer of faith. Faith is both a theological virtue given by God as grace, and an obligation which flows from the first commandment of God

The bible has a great allegory in the OT about faith.

Israel was almost slain by Isaac on an alter. Which proved to God that he was a man of faith.

So if you are willing to sacrifice your children in the name of God, you are 100% faithful.

This is exactly why faith based religion is so dangerous.

Living in fear is no way to live. Jesus doesn't want you to live that way. He told us that He gave us His Peace and to not let our hearts be afriad. Listen to Him. Remember the words of St Augstine: "To sin is human. To persist in sin is Satanic." God expects you to make mistakes. He also expects you to learn from them and not repeat them.

I kind of have a laugh everytime I hear the "what would Jesus do" line. Because doesn't it seem like Jesus was against his own religion in his time because they were all arrogant and "holier than thou"? Would that be considered acting like Jesus today?

Don't get the phrase "try to be Christ like" confused with "try to be like Christ". No one can be like Jesus...if we could wouldn't that diminish his uniqueness? But we can try to be Christ like, that is we can try to reflect how he would act...but we can't actually DO as he did. At least that is my opinion, I feel it would be arrogant of me to say I am like Christ.

You need to immerse yourself in prayer and the WORD. Your fear simply means you have deep reverence for the LORD. Praise the LORD.

Of course you don't believe any of that stuff. You're a rational person. Rational people don't believe things without evidence. What you're talking about is the equivalent of believing in Santa Claus.

You can only have faith if you have had doubt. Otherwise, there is no such thing as faith.
