you need to format a new disk, and windows xp will not do this, you need software that will format the disk for you.

without using a paid third-celebration gadget like Acronis Disk Director you may boot your equipment with the unfastened maximum suitable Boot CD and use between the partition approaches in there to trash the partition you do no longer opt for. i don't have faith it is available to merge partitions using domicile windows, i've got continuously used Acronis or Partition Magic. And regardless of you, make a backup of the equipment previously changing partitions!

Windows XP doesn't support DVD burning. You need to use an application like NTI DVD maker or Nero or Roxio, or any of a host of other applications K3B ftw.

Have you actually formatted the disk?

Right click on the 'dvd' from 'my computer' and click 'format disk', i think all disks have to be formatted before they are used.

I have windows xp and i can copy on to disks.

Uncheck multi-session disk. The computer needs a disk to be formatted like a drive for muli-session. To make a 1 time burn it needs to be able to close the disk
