You want to look for single-coat dogs. Maltese, Shih-Tzu, etc.
Or you can go to: http://www.dog-breed-facts.com/dog-grooming.html and scroll dog to what they call "Hypoallergenic dogs" (which is a misnomer, they still have dander - which is what causes allergies).
Also, to minimize shedding of any breed, brush it regularly and get it groomed.

There are a number of breeds that either don't shed or shed very little - Poodles, Maltese, Shih Tzus, Chinese Crested, Mexican Hairless and such. Check out sites like the AKC, and CKC- Canadian Kennel Club for more information on non-shedding breeds.

While there are some breeds, like Poodles and poodle mutts, that don't shed very much, you should never let this be the deciding factor in choosing your breed. Just because you won't be vacuuming constantly, doesn't mean you won't face potential behavioral problems because you got a dog you weren't prepared to handle. Poodles have a lot of energy and are extremely intelligent. You should only get a poodle or poodle mix if you're prepared to exercise him regularly and provide regular, consistent training.

Actually, there are a lot of breeds that don't shed, or minimally shed.
Poodles or any breeds mixed with them (such as Labradoodle, schoodle, cockapoo, and lots more but I can't remember off the top of my head.)
Schanuzers
Maltese
Shih Tzu
Lhasa Apso
And besides those, there are MANY variations and mixes between them!

Hi there
We have three bichon frise dogs. Whilst they don't shed hair some (albeit very very little) of their hair naturally falls out (much like a human). They are hypoallergenic which means that our friends with asthma etc are fine with them.
They have lovely natures but do demand a lot of cuddles. low maintainance re walk and exercise but do require v regular grooming.
Good luck

Pug dont shed a lot. If you want something that doesnt shed, get any dog and shave it constantly, make it look like some pariah or like you!

The Bichon Frise does not shed and its considered hypo-allergenic. They have hair, not fur. You have to brush thier hair and care for them a little more than most, but they are a wonderful dog to have. They are smart and make really good companions.

shih tzus hardly seem to shed at all but they do need to be groomed professionally every 4 to 5 weeks with you brushing them every other day inbetween or their hair gets matted.
