They need it to get cold at night and have at least a week where they think it will stay cold. It doesn't actually even have to be below freezing for them to make snow if the air is dry enough. It's warm up here today, I'm 300 yards from the base of Bear Mountain and it's warm and sunny. There are golfers in tee shirts. They will do everything in thier power to have at least some runs open by Thanksgiving. I spoke with the lead electrician at Snow Sumit last night and he just ordered a huge transformer needed to run compressors to add to Summits snow making system on Westridge. The transformer should be here by Thanksgiving giving Summit added snow making capacity.

Cold mountain weather coupled with dry santa ana winds makes excellent snow making conditions.

I'll try to remember to shoot you an email as soon as I see the mountains start making snow.

If you mean Big-Bear in PA...not until the temp gets below 25F at night. Last year we didn't start making snow until December 15th or so.

When the nights are constantly below freezing and they days are cold all day long like about below 45 degrees. Maybe by Thanksgiving.

At the least, october, but with the odd weather this year who knows.
