A couple of days ago he started to have loose stools and although he's still been running around he has been more sleepy than usual. Today he's off his food - does it sound like a common bug or should I be worried?

No, its normal in pups of this age. Just make sure he has plenty to drink so that he doesnt become dehydrated. Put him on a fairly bland diet for a couple of days; hard boiled eggs mashed up and added to a litle boiled rice, and give him some plain, Greek yogurt. /this is really good for puppies, and is genlte for their little tummies.

I would suggest going to the vet today. If the diarrhea is brown/black mucus looking, and he starts vomiting on top of these other symptoms, I would RUN to the vet right NOW. Puppies do get normal 'bugs' that can cause diarrhea, but at that age it is best to assume parvo first,,, instead of waiting around to be sure. If it happened to be parvo, the best chance he has is to get to a vet very soon. If it isn't parvo, then no harm done by going on the the vet.

Get Him to the vets Now
As he is only 3 1/2 months old he will be not stromg enough to fight a infection that's probably why he is sleeping a lot to gather strength to help fight a infection. Even loose stools can be a worry best not to worry further, Get him checked for your and his peace of mind

if you can't think of a specific thing that would make him act this way, i'd be calling the vet to get him in today - it could be something innocent but if it's something more serious (like parvo) then the earlier you get him in, the better his chances of living thru it. some of the diseases dogs pick up can be fatal, and they spread easily enough that all it takes is for your pup to walk in an area another sick dog had been, like in a park or a pet store. it's better to be safe than sorry - if the vet finds it's nothing to worry about, at least all you're out is an exam fee. but if you don't get your dog in, and it turns out to be something serious, you'd end up regretting it.

If you don't think he is well just to take him to the vets for a check up. When my eldest dog was very young he wasn't very well - he curled up between my legs and looked at me - I just had a gut feeling that all was not well. I took him to the vets and he wasn't very well - he had a very high temperature and could barely stand on his legs. I am glad to say he made a good recovery and is 9 years old & still going strong. Good luck - hope he's feeling better soon!

NO-ONE here and I mean NO-ONE is qualified to tell you what is wrong!
Take your Dog to the Vet ASAP and get him checked out!
It could be he's picked something up and eaten it and it's upset his tummy but it could also be that he has an infection or one of the illnesses puppies are prone to!
It's always better to be safe than sorry!
The Vet is going to be much happier seeing him over a slight tummy upset than you leaving it and it turning into a medical emergency!
Please let us know how things go!

if a dog has the runs for more than 2 days it's time to worry they can dehydrate. even more time to worry when they stop eating as well Also being lethargic and more sleepy time to stop everythign and get to the vets.

Ok, this could be a serious problem. Loose stool, no stamina, always sleepy, lose appetite - this could be distemper which can be fatal for dogs.

Please visit the vet as soon as you can. Any disease for dogs can be treated and it has a chance of recovered as long as they have appetite (try to throw in some canned food along with his kibbles) to get him to eat. If he loses appetite, I fear the worst! Good luck!@

He could be ill. Has he had the necessary jabs that he needs? I would be worried about it if I were you. It's best you take him to a vet for a check up either way.
