my cat that went missing has finally come back. however there are some bruises as if he had been fighting.

thank god i had vaccinated him, but he's unneutered.

now that i learn how important it is to spay my cat, how long should i wait before getting him spayed?

because he just came back and had some bruises.

i'm sending him to the vet first think in the morning (no such thing as emergency vet in my country)

thanx a lot to all the respondents on my previous post....really appreciate it!!!

You might want to take him for a check-up and make sure he hasn't picked up any parasites or nasty infections.

Normally, I would say get your kitty neutered ASAP. But since he's just undergone a trauma from being lost, you might want to give him a couple of weeks at the very least to recover, before you schedule an operation. Your vet can advise you better about when would be a good time.

Congratulations on your cat coming home!

yeah!!!!

ok first be warned because vaccination isnt 100% fool proof.. it only lowers the risk it doesnt remove it 100%.

males are neutered - females are spayed...

the vet will tell you when you should neuter him... if he is over 6 months probably soon... keep him indoors ONLY until that date (and ideally after too - because now you know the risks)

neutering is very important - not only to control wandering but to help lower the unwanted kitten population (over 6 million killed every year in USA alone) BUT also he wont get testicular cancer...

Just call and make an appointment. I pick them up off the street is Im sure worse condition and take them right in for spay/ neuters.

Im holding one because of an eye issue he may need to have his eye removed at the same time. But unless there is something else that surgically needs to be done get him altered!!

This happened to my cat. He was unneutered, was gone for a day and a half, came back after a fight. I had him neutered the next day. Everything went well until the day after he was neutered. Apparently some of the bites he had from the fight had broke open and became sores. I thought this had something to do with his surgery but it didnt. I took him back to the vet they cleaned them out and he was fine. I was scared to death but everything was fine. This is just something that happens after cats fight and bite each other. I just wanted you to be aware of this, in case it happens to you.

If it's a boy, it's called neutering. Get him neutered as soon as possible. Today would be good. As long as he's just a bit beaten up and not seriously injured it should be ok to neuter him today. He'll be so much nicer once neutered. He'll not pee all over the place and won't need to leave and fight with other cats and get a bunch of cats pregnant.

he has bruises because he isnt fixed and thats what male cats do.. fight and look for unfixed females. I would take him in right away and ask the vet if it is a good time to get him fixed, or make an appointment for a few days to give him time to recoup.

I'm glad he's back!

You are doing the right thing by going straight to the vets. Speak to your vet about neutering, they will be able to advise when would be a good time if he needs to recover from his little adventure first!

Hmm, I think that's a question for the vet because you don't know how serious the injuries are. You can see the physical ones, but say if he has something like cracked ribs you can't tell by looking at the guy.

Its normal for both the tom and the female to "wander" or stray when through puberty, and the toms will fight over the available women, so he will come home torn up until you nueter him. His "adventures in finding a date," if you will, probably made him wait at someone's door and fight all of her other suitors, to get a piece of tail. If you don't want him coming home with evidence of fighting, get him neutered immedietately. He's obviously gone through puberty, and unless you intend to breed him, he will continue to chase after any female cat in heat and get in fights.

So HAPPY for you! The last time I saw my Ollie was July 4th, 2002. I know the fire-crackers from next door freaked him out. We think he bolted into the woods and met his maker in the form of a coyote, fox or fisher cat. Very sad. Miss him alot.
